Giuseppina's Italian Bakery — Restaurant in South Windsor

I discovered this place about a year ago. Within this time I’ve ordered about 5 cakes and referred many people to them. All of my cake orders I’ve done through email. I never had any negative experiences until I recently sent in a photo of a cake design I wanted. I was told that they couldn’t do the design because of the type of frosting I wanted and to let them know if they can do another design. What I didn’t tell them was that they already made the same exactly cake for me several months ago, it was just in a different color. I asked Jenny if they can use another frosting. I got NO response. So I call first thing the next morning and to my surprise the cake is already made. I mention that I never confirmed for them to do the other design. I got a call back from Jenny saying that the baker was short handed and needed to get the cake out the way. But, when I first placed my cake order via phone call I was told by Jenny that if anything came up she would just give me a call and that email wasn’t the best way of communication. So I’m confused as to why I received an email and never a phone call if the baker needed to get the cake done and their was an issue with the design of the cake. Also, Jenny told me that she saw my email about changing the frosting to make the design work but the cake was already done so she didn’t bother to reply. I was told that the only thing they can do at this point is add sprinkles to the cake to make it similar to the one I wanted. I ended up not picking up the cake because I did NOT order that cake. I would still end up paying full price for it. I also feel lied to because I was told something couldn’t be done that I’ve witnessed them do for me before. The food is great but I’m not so sure about their attentiveness to the satisfaction of their customers and meeting their needs. No matter how good our food is, good customer service is what keeps...

We usually are not complainers, but we feel the need to speak up about the wedding cake we recently ordered from Giuseppina’s Italian Bakery in South Windsor. When we placed our order, we specifically requested a lemon cake with raspberry preserve and raspberry mousse filling. What we got on our wedding day was a plain two layer vanilla cake with one very thin layer of raspberry preserve and mousse mixed in the middle. This was unacceptable because the filling is the best part of the cake and there was barely any! Usually with a wedding cake, one would expect at least four layers of cake with a thick layer of mousse between each layer; this was not the case with our wedding cake. This disappointed us because we did not get what we ordered. After spending a rather large amount of money on a cake, it should at least have been the correct flavor. Also, we dropped off silk flowers to decorate cake. They only used about half of the flowers we had provided, leaving the cake very plain looking. Overall, the cake looked like it was thrown together quickly and it was not the quality expected for a couples wedding, which is a once in a lifetime event. If you are thinking of ordering a wedding cake from this bakery, do not expect that it will look and taste like anything out of the ordinary.

In addition, the tray of Italian cookies were a huge let down to my guests. The cookies were extremely sweet and bland; the rainbow cookies were the only variety that were palatable.

If I could give negative stars, I would. I ordered a wedding cake through this bakery with specifically what I would like it to look like. They assured me it was no problem. When their delivery guy showed up with the cake, he started shoving the real flowers my florist ordered onto the cake. She said she would rather do it so it came out how I wanted. He said he knew what it was supposed to look like and kept shoving the flowers into the frosting with his bare hands. When I called to complain, the manager told me I was incorrect and that the cake looked exactly how I requested and that if I was unhappy that was just too bad. I'd love to know if anyone else agrees with her that these look similar? Because it absolutely does not. She also said they are not expected to provide a cake box...for their cakes...... she said it was up to me. Because of course I have nothing else to think about but providing myself a cake box for a $335 wedding cake. Will absolutely never go to this bakery again and would encourage you...
