as a pretext to this review, I am an 8 year experience chef and cook for multiple restaurants. I have high standards but my standards come from execution of food and customer service for the most part.. those are the two biggest things in this industry along with cleanliness.
I have passed this establishment many times going back and forth to and from Philadelphia on my days off of work. After grabbing gas across the street I decided to give this place to try. When I walked in I already knew that I wasn't going to have a good experience but aside from that intial thought and hesitation, I still decided to give this place a try to be fair. instead of dragging this review out I will give you my quick experience...
I was given a menu and greeted by two different people after my hesitation from the first woman who gave me a menu.. I have no idea what their names were because they never told me. In a restaurant establishment it would be nice to be properly greeted. I ordered a soda from the young girl along with a pork roll and egg sandwich on a kaiser roll with a side of home fries. I wanted to wash my hands before I ate and because this establishment has no bathroom I was forced to go outside to the porta potty to do so which I completely understand because this establishment is older. I received my food very fast which kind of alarmed me just because I know that fresh potatoes that are done on the grill do not cook that fast or heat up that fast. They should be made to order after prepping potatoes. When I received my food the pork roll and egg were way over cooked like they were grilled on a very very high temperature or kept too long on the grill.. when I tasted the sugar cube sized potatoes I noticed the onions weren't cooked correctly since they were still crunchy and not properly caramelized or grilled I slightly burned the tip of my tongue from these potatoes and set them aside because these potatoes were definitely in the fryer. Because the potatoes are so small the hot oil just saturates them. I finished most of them after I ate my sandwich but had to put ketchup to have some flavor. A very big turn off about this place to is that the girl who was my server was also ringing up people but at the same time other people would ring up people to cash out there bill but after leaving the cash register these same girls are going to get plates of food or drinks etc.. and are potentially touching food without washing hands.. also I didn't see anyone at all use gloves. Huge potential health hazard! The best part of my meal was actually the kaiser roll that was nice and soft and the soda which sucks because I could have gotten a soda and a roll at Wawa for $2. The food that I ordered fits the bill though at a $9-10 bill...but the quality of the execution... The cleanliness of the workers (possible cross contamination especially handling money).. and the poor customer service (no one even checked on me one time while I was eating other than to give me a bill for my food).. leads me to this one star review. it's a shame because it can be an absolutely beautiful place with a nice renovation and if they progressed and came up with Solutions moving forward. I won't ever be back again and I caution others for the health...
Read moreI am an African American woman, I went to this establishment today because my coworker said they have good ice cream. So after work I drove down there when I walked into the place I felt like I stepped back into 1950! Everyone looked at me as I walked through the door ( some kept looking). I walked up to the counter and another patron starred at me as if he couldn't believe I was there. I went to the window and the young boy who was probably no older than 15 didnt say hello back when I said hello. He what seemed like, asked for permission to serve me from the female next to him. Finally I got my ice cream and left, but not without more stares. The ice cream was good but I'll never step foot back in that establishment. I never in my 40 something yrs have never felt so UNCOMFORTABLE in an establishment than I did in this one. It pains me to write this , I just wouldn't want anyone to feel like I did.
So for the person who chimed in on what I wrote, first I did not say any of your employees said or did anything. So that's number 1. Second, no one greeted me as I came through the door...wait no they did with their stares. Even when I walked up to the counter and said hello to the " nicest sweetest young boy" I got no hello back. Third, I didnt day that he asked permission I said "what seemed" so please reread that part. And lastly what defamation case do you have? Are you going to tell me anyone that give you a bad review that your gonna get a lawyer? Yea I'll wait. I stand by my review, I stand by what I said and how I felt and for you to say oh I have a black this and black that and I'm married to a Latina is foolishness and has nothing to do with the customers who patronize your establishment they are who made me feel that way not your cook, or your assistant or your wife!.
So please have a seat...
Read moreMy husband and I have been to that place several times in the past years, always had a great experience until last Saturday nite. Very disappointing this time. I asked the gentleman at the window for a white out with Mint chocolate chip ice-cream, he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese, it's on their menu! After I asked him for it 3 times, he finally got the ice-cream for me with oreos toppings. Well, it was white ice-cream so I thought to myself, good! When I tasted it, it wasn't mint chocolate chip but pure Vanilla! I never said Vanilla!!! $8 for a soft serve vanilla with oreo toppings!!! I ate it but I didn't enjoy it as I would have with the correct ice-cream. My husband, same! He asked for black cherry soft serve with a twist of chocolate, well, they didn't give him the chocolate! He looked very upset, as I was and nicely told the server he made a mistake with his order. The server was nice enough to accommodate my husband with a cup of chocolate ice-cream. I didn't say anything but I didn't hide my disappointment. Worst of all, my husband spotted one of the servers eating a customer french fries before being served!!! Gross!!! And ... the same server was dropping the F bomb while flirting with girl employees in front of the customers! Horrible!!! Maybe it's time for the owner to reconsider his staff. I felt horrified after seeing and hearing this. My husband and I aren't sure whether we will ever go back...
