We were really disappointed to go here for 'brunch' the other weekend. They don't serve brunch, even though they claim they do. It's just regular breakfast or a turkey sandwich. Limited parking, no table service and super limited and pricy menu. It is really a coffeehouse with some dishes, promoting itself as a cafe. You have to wait in the coffee line to place your meal order, then take a number stand and place it on your table. Someone walks the dishes out, after a significant amount of time, but otherwise does not check on you. But you have to tip at the counter when you pay, not knowing what service (or lack of service) you will receive. We ordered hot tea which was literally boiling in the to-go cup-no mugs here, and a coffee, also in a paper cup. By the end of the meal the tea was still too hot to drink. The coffee fixings are over by the front door, which makes sense for to-go customers, but awkward and inconvenient for dining in. There are also patio tables. The sun blasts into the primary side of the Cafe, and like the business before it, no shades or blinds. Sun is good but you shouldn't need shades indoors, and I'm not exaggerating, you really do need them. Again, same situation with the deli that was in this space prior. IYKYK. Our dishes were very ordinary. The hash brown filets were really, really greasy. The rest of our meal was good, not great. The food portion was modest but fine, but served on improbable small plates, making it difficult to get at with a knife and fork. The sign says you don't have to bus your own table, but the bussing 'station ' is right out in the open and most people did anyway. Overall, we were really disappointed in this place, and with the inconvenient location and limited parking (in walking distance of the Heritage Hotel and likely gets it's primary business from guests) we won't...
Read moreHudson’s is a gem of a restaurant located in the Heritage Village section of Southbury. It’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and each of these seating times offer yummy and satisfying selections. If you don’t see exactly what you’re craving, ask the owner/chef Roy and if he has the ingredients, he always try to accommodate (he has so many times for me). He will even throw out ideas he can whip up for you, many coming out of the seafood market he also owns, which is the freshest around (I am primarily pescatarian so I know the quality is excellent).
I eat here often and am never disappointed. The owner/chef is amazing at his craft. I could never stress enough how amazing a chef Roy is. Last night, I brought the burrata salad, french onion soup, grilled cheese, a rueben and the chicken pesto panini to a friend’s house and we feasted and incredibly happy! Tonight I will be back for an amazing seafood dinner and a bottle of wine. Yes…. It’s that good that I can go multiple days in a row.
Give Hudson’s a try. Your happiness and satisfaction...
Read moreWent here for a second time on a Monday evening again. It looks like they've updated their process. While they invited us (and other guests as we were there) to sit wherever they wished, they do come to the table and take your order; and they bring your food to you when it is ready, in traditional table waiting format. I honestly didn't have an issue with the previous method of ordering at the counter and them bringing food over when ready, but there were several reviews commenting on that.
Again, the food preparation and presentation was excellent - had the chicken with fingerling potatoes, and my wife had the falafel. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the entire experience is refreshing. I find it a refreshing alternative to other options available locally. I've seen comments about the costs, but I don't find them to be out of line; you can easily spend as much at your local deli, Chipotle, or sandwich shop as you would for a meal here - and you simply can't get the quality and preparation that you find here at...
