I've been golfing here for a few years, and up until now I've never had a problem. A friend and I had an early tee time, but the head pro told us there was a frost delay and said it would be about 45 minutes and he had to wait for the superintendent's approval to send people out. We decided to wait it out. After about 30 minutes we went back inside the clubhouse to pay and get ready. We were standing by the counter for almost 10 minutes, clearly visible from where he was sitting at his desk looking at his phone, and he didn't acknowledge us once. He walked into the other room and came back and said, without even looking at us, "I turned the TV on. It's probably going to be another half hour before the sun comes up and the frost is cleared." He then returned to his desk and his phone. We waited for at least another half hour and by that time the sun had been up for a little while. We again waited patiently by the counter to pay and he still ignored us. Another customer came in and walked up towards the counter and asked us if they were open. We told him that we had been waiting a while for the head pro. When the head pro saw the customer at the counter he got up from his desk and walked right past us as if we weren't even there and then proceeded to ring up the other customer. We then paid after the other customer (who got there over an hour after we did), and went over to the carts. We decided to each grab our own cart, which we normally wouldn't do because it's not the best golf etiquette, but it was already an hour and a half past our scheduled time and we were in a bit of a hurry. When we got down to the first tee he told us over the intercom to return one of the carts and ride together. I returned to the clubhouse and asked if it was okay to use 2 because of the long delay (not to mention the fact that there was literally only one other person there). He reluctantly allowed us to use 2 carts.
What really bothered me about this whole incident was that he never once acknowledged us as paying customers, and it seemed that he never made an effort to contact the superintendent (who wasn't even present) for approval to send people out once the sun was up and the frost cleared. The conditions would have been absolutely fine to play in anyway, and I'm not sure why they're so concerned about preserving the course when it's well past normal golf season and there's barely anyone with tee times to begin with. I'm not sure if I've ever dealt with customer service this poor in my...
Read moreAgree with those who have commented about the fast greens and pin placements. The Oaks has an excellent clubhouse and the course has a lot of potential but in recent years their strategy seems to be to make the greens faster and the pins in tougher locations. It makes for some really challenging putting even if you are on the green in regulation. A few of the holes with severe slopes or 2 or more tiers combined with nearly unplayable pins seem beyond challenging for the average golfer, but they at least make an effort to make the green surface as smooth as possible for better rolling. It appears that the Oaks has taken the approach of super challenging greens and pins as their branding so they must be trying to attract the lower handicap players. Otherwise, the views are very nice from many locations so you can take a deep breath and enjoy the view as you calm down from yet another 3-putt. Some of the areas of the course in rough shape should be marked as ground under repair but mysteriously are not, and the back nine is very unforgiving of small misses on several holes. Overall huge potential but I’m not a fan of the direction in recent years around the pins and greens - makes the experience less enjoyable for the average golfer because the ball just won’t stop. If you don’t care about score or really need a challenge you’ll likely love it. If you are trying to improve your handicap or don’t appreciate U.S. Open style greens maybe choose some other options...
Read moreCourse was in good condition overall. Tee boxes were well kept and green rolled smooth. Unfortunately our cart died about halfway through 14 and we called the pro shop about 4 times with no answer. We started having to push the cart with our other cart in the foursome. Called another couple times with no answer. We got back to the pro shop and I asked about a cart refund or rain check. The employees working said we should have called. I told them we already had and they said another employee was supposed to be watching the pro shop but he was lazy and doesn’t do much. They directed me inside to talk to the guy in there. I walk in and he acted super put out that I was asking him to do anything and asked me all kinds of questions about how we got the cart back and where it died. I asked for a rain check knowing we would come back and he tried to just give me rain check for one rider. I told him we had two so it’s not fair I only get a rain check for one rider. He acted like I asking him to bend over backwards and break all the rules for this. The kids working the carts were beyond helpful and so polite and wanted to help the situation. The older guy in the pro shop was unprofessional and it makes me not want to come back. Learn some customer service before entering that...
