July 2024 Update - We ventured back finally and both the service and food has improved tremendously! We even went back a second time in one week to verify and yes, it is back to the old Maxine's we remembered. Good job, guys!
Old update- I hate to update my review from years ago, as we used to frequent Maxine's pre-pandemic but stopped when they placed restrictions. We've ventured back a few times since but not as much because the food quality isn't great but the service always has been up until this point, and it's close to home. It's probably been at least 6-9 months since visiting last so we decided to go for a "quick bite" after church this morning. We got there at 11:45 and the restaurant was pretty full but there was one table available so we got seated immediately. And that was where everything stopped. Our grandpa, whom is a regular there, was finishing his brunch and I overheard him telling one of the waitresses that we hadn't been waited on yet, as we sat there for about 10-15 minutes waiting to order or receive any waters. We placed our order and waited. We have 3 (very hungry) young children so we kept them busy the best we could but we started noticing everyone around us that had been there were also not receiving any food. As we were approaching an hour of sitting there, food started coming out to those who were there before us. The poor elderly woman next to me waited an hour for a bowl of oatmeal. Not one time did anyone return to our table to give us an update on our food/time expectancy, or to offer our children crayons, or see if we needed refills. Nothing. It would've been nice to have been told when we walked in with 3 little ones right at lunchtime that there was an hour+ wait on food. Which, if we're being honest, is ridiculous for such a small restaurant to begin with. Then tables that came in after us (adults with no children trying their best to be patient) started getting their food while we sat there. At this point, we couldn't wait any longer so we addressed the situation with the reception area and asked for our food to go, as it was well beyond our kids' naptime and they still hadn't eaten a bit of lunch. We walked in at 11:45 and out at 1:09 without eating anything but ice water. When we got home, we discovered that hashbrowns were missing from our order. Unfortunately, giving the place one last try didn't work out so well so we will have to drive out of town for breakfasts and brunch now. We wish you...
Read moreI really didn’t want to leave a negative review, but after this experience, I feel it's necessary to share. I placed a to-go order for three omelets, and was very clear: No mushrooms, no onions, and white toast with strawberry jam. Unfortunately, when I received the food, all three omelets were full of mushrooms and onions, and the toast came without the requested jam.
I called Maxine’s right away to let them know about the issue. They offered to remake the food, but at that point, I was more frustrated than hungry and just wanted a refund. I was told they’d call me back to authorize it — which they eventually did, but said I needed to bring the food back in order to get refunded.
When I returned the food, they only gave me a partial refund (1/3 of the total) and treated me with clear attitude during the process.
I genuinely enjoy supporting local businesses, and I understand that mistakes happen. But the combination of a messed-up order, poor customer service, and an incomplete refund means I won’t be returning. I hope they take this feedback seriously and improve their customer care...
Read moreWent there this morning. The coffee and pop was okay. Husband liked his French toast and scrambled eggs. However, I couldn't eat my steak and eggs breakfast. I ordered a medium. Not only was it cooked to well and very tough, but it was also rancid. The smell alone made me second guess taking a bite, but I decided to take a chance on it. Took one small bite of it and spit it out as it also tasted like the meat had gone bad. I couldn't stomach anything after that as I tried the toast but felt queasy. Waitress was nice about it and they didn't charge me for the food sent back. I also liked listening to the gossip.
Coffee mug had a cracked handle, but it held up for 2 cups of coffee. The bathroom was okay, didn't smell or anything and looked clean. Some areas of the restaurant though looked cracked/crumbling and damaged.
Would maybe return to have more pop or coffee and listen to the drama, but wouldn't return for the food. I hope what I tasted this morning was just a fluke. The locals seem to...
