Sharing this as a catering review – hard. Really hard. However, the incident is too significant to be overlooked. It has been a week since the wedding and our perspective has not changed. As clients who paid in full for catering services for 160, we did not receive the contracted amount of food. Brisket, pulled pork, bbq chicken thighs, pasta salad, potato salad, mac and cheese were our wedding reception choices. As the order was placed, well in advance, our decision was to order DOUBLE the amount needed to cover the wedding reception AND serving lunches the next day to our out-of-town guests (who came from as far as Alaska to enjoy the great food…we really bragged on it…) only to have had to cancel that gathering because we never received our full order.
I made direct eye contact with the server, that evening in the midst of the the event, and asked, “Is this it? I specifically ordered double of what I needed” She said “Yes…” with a sheepish nod. But she ended up taking the rest of our order back to the restaurant. Three full pans...supposedly of brisket, chicken and mac and cheese. Yet I was told there was no extra. (We have a walk-in cooler with the capacity and abilities of food storage for the extra pans…which is why we ordered double.) Regardless of this being a first-time event for the server, it was a complete bold face lie to a paid-in-full client at their daughter's wedding. Not to mention during the event NOTHING was refilled. I find it hard to believe in all the events this person has ever participated in for the Spartansburg community for multiple events, charities, volunteering, years in organizing, planning, preparing, documenting, on a yearly basis, that they were that confused about what the right thing to do was. Not sure of the protocol for that is? But was it tossed out? Given away? Served? I don’t know, but it was stated that it was NOT served the next day at the Father's Day Buffet.
According to, I guess some discussions amongst the staff, the “mistake” was recognized that evening. But they didn’t return the food we paid for. According to the owner they usually make MORE to make sure there is enough – which is laughable and makes the 80 meals we paid for and didn’t receive EVEN WORSE. I communicated the issue on Sunday – completely humiliated after canceling the gathering for that day because we didn’t have ANY food – I didn’t hear back until 10pm Sunday evening. Justifications for one reason or another as to why the issue wasn’t corrected or communicated in a timely manner falls short – like off a cliff! (Life happens. The same family/life/healthcare issues are ones I deal with too…so SAME…and unacceptable.) The resolution was a credit. Yes, please. However, the initial credit proposed was not sufficient to compensate for the error. It did not cover the 80 servings that we never received. 160 people x $14 = $2240 Paid for 80 people x $14 = $1120 What we got $200 gratuity to the server (calculated by the food we did get to eat…which is a 18% cash tip). We should receive a credit for $1120, but was offered $500..then $550. Settled at $700 at the very least. That’s us paying for 110 people – ironically including the “extra” they cook for “just in case.” With only 70 attendees, our decision to order extra accounted for overpreparation. Bottom line – food is fine. We heard “the best brisket I’ve ever had”! Business decisions and etiquette...
Read moreI've been to Ashley's Pub on several occasions. I am not a wing or pork eater so I have ordered the brisket sandwich (brisket is not on the buffet). It has generally been good but not the best I've had-my husband and friends like the place so it's usually fine-not great but fine. Today I wanted to order it again, the only one of our party of seven not having the buffet. I had to hunt down our waitress to order. Then I waited a half an hour and finally flagged down the waitress to find out where it was-she hadn't checked on us in all that time. Once she brought it I could tell it had sat under the lights for quite a while. My fries were lukewarm. The brisket was dry as bone, so I had to drown it in sauce which I also had to ask for. When it came time to pay, our bill included the buffet I didn't have. The lady at the bar was rude and snide to me-kept telling me to calm down. I wasn't raising my voice or being unreasonable-just asking for my bill to be right. She had to do it twice. I also tried to let her know what happened with my order and she said "We are really working hard here today, we're really busy and Sunday we concentrate on our buffet-so you have to expect that." Well, why offer your menu then if no one can count on it being good? Just put up a sign that says buffet only today! It was extremely busy and there was a birthday party on the deck. Having worked in restaurants myself for years, I have no problem understanding that. But to be that rude to a customer, and saying you can't expect a good meal for your money is ridiculous. If my husband wants to go again, I'll eat first and have a coffee only. I will never eat their food again. When I have had the buffet, I was unimpressed except for the pizza. Oh and air conditioner on the wall blasted us the...
Read moreI am compelled to address a situation that has been distorted on social media. Today, my husband and I visited Ashley's Pub where an unfortunate misunderstanding occurred. After briefly using the restroom, I returned about 2 minutes later to find that my husband had ordered two sandwiches, and a beer not knowing we had only $10 on us. I informed the staff that I only had a $10 bill, which was intended for a $3 beer, and requested that they cancel the sandwich order. However, they alleged that the sandwiches were already being made, which seems questionable within the short time frame. Once we got home, I seen that Ashley's had posted defamatory statements about me on Facebook, along with photos of me efalsely accusing me of theft. I attempted to resolve the matter by contacting the owner, offering to provide my payment information (they believed I owe) in exchange for the removal of the post. Unfortunately, she refused to delete the post and blocked me from commenting to defend myself. It appears that their intention is not to resolve the issue, but rather to cause unnecessary drama. I'm moving on from this matter, and if the authorities reach out I will gladly inform them of the situation.! There's my side I never got to mention since they blocked and removed me from commenting and deleting the time stamps from the photos, clearly proving we were only in the building for a total of 5 minutes.I never once got to talk to the owner. They refuse to let me even speak with the owner. Just a couple bartenders arguing with me to...
