Burger & Company - Spirit Lake, IA — Restaurant in Spirit Lake

To round out my two day trip visiting friends up in Okoboji, we went to the Burger & Company. Previously, I saw their menu at their food truck closer to my parents’ house, but due to staffing shortages it had to close and I never made it up to their brick and mortar location in Spirit Lake. However, I will certainly be back. I loved the venue, vibe, and overall aesthetic of this place. There was an adorable outdoor patio with music playing, festoon lights, seating, and shade. Inside the atmosphere was a little bit modern combined with a little bit of a rustic barbecue feel. while the area where you order seems a little tight, there are two different seating areas adjacent to it that offered plenty of seating. The staff was so friendly, willing to make recommendations, and patient while I took a good amount of time to decide what in the world I wanted. Everything sounded SO GOOD. This place has something for everyone. I didn’t know if I wanted a grilled chicken breast burger, Turkey burger, veggie burger or go with the tried and true. This restauranteur is out of Nashville and one of their burgers even was voted number one burger in Nashville. In the end, I went with the fried pickle burger that obviously had fried pickles and a delicious patty, but also quality cheese and coleslaw. It was pretty awesome, but every option I saw sounded and looked equally delicious. The star for me were the sides. I opted for the tater tots that come with a Nashville hot seasoning and a delicious, I’m assuming homemade, ranch dressing. The fried cauliflower was my absolute favorite- SO crunchy. I certainly wouldn’t consider it in the heart of Okoboji and it might be one of the farthest restaurants in the lakes area away from the amusement park, but it is 100%...

We were looking for a good place to have lunch, and a local resident suggested Burger & Company. It was an excellent recommendation.

The restaurant itself was nice, not extremely large but plenty of seating was available. Tables were spacious and seating (benches and chairs) were comfortable. It was very clean including the restroom. Simple and pleasant environment for a meal.

You order upon entering, and your food is brought to your table. Mainly burgers on the menu (hence the name), but a few other choices are available (chicken, fish, and vegetarian). The variety of burgers was pretty good, and I thought that several of the selections were fairly innovative. Beverages are can or bottle, no fountain drinks. Some really tasty looking cookies (from which I abstained... stupid diet) were the apparent dessert option.

Our food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time, and the order was correct all the way around. My BOT burger was excellent, well cooked (juicy and not over done) and really delicious. The other three burgers were equally appealing. All of the burgers were fairly large in size, and carefully prepared rather than just piled on a bun. Seasoned fries and tater tots rounded out the meal.

I am pretty particular about my hamburger, but I have to say they nailed it solid. The seasoned fries were good as well. Prices were reasonable, about on par with most restaurants. Service was great, and I was pleased to see how well they worked at keeping the place clean.

Definitely a worthwhile dining experience, and I hope I can go back...

As a recommendation by a good friend of ours, we decided to try this hidden gem in Spirit Lake, IA called Burger & Company. Wow! The food was fantastic! The menu had a nice variety of options. I was able to get the BC Burger + 3 with a lettuce bun for doing keto/paleo, but they also have gluten free options and even vegetarian dishes if you prefer!

We ordered a side of cheese curds which were pleasant, and tried their side of fried cauliflower which had an awesome flavor!

Jason (owner) and the staff were very friendly and the place is kept very clean and welcoming! The environment is rustic industrial feel and is family-friendly.

The location is perfect being next to various businesses and front row free parking is available!

The prices tend to be a little more than other fast food joints, although with the quality amd service, this is better than McDonald's. I would consider this more upscale food cooked to order. They use local, fresh, and healthy ingredients.
