Overall this is a place I like to visit. I say "overall" because on my most recent visit the service was truly tragic, but it was the exception rather than the norm.
The food here is largely standard bar food - a wide range of sandwiches, burgers, pizzas etc. There are a few other things on the parts of the menu that I've never explored - I like their burgers and pizzas.
It's a shame that so many dishes come with chips rather than fries - it's not like throwing a chopped up potato in the fryer would add much to the cost price, and having to pay extra to have fries with a burger just feels like the venue is cheaping out on me while still expecting me to pay full price. Personally I'd rather see fries included in the price with an option to upgrade to spicy fries or sweet potato fries or whatever, if you want to pay an extra buck or two.
The range of beers is good, chances are there's something for everyone. Every once in a while they have a limited release like a barrel aged stout. Some of them are truly delicious, but watch the alcohol content as the odd one pushes over 10%.
Edit 10 Aug 2023. Google invited me to update my review. There's not really much to update. They still sell good pizza, and still offer a good range of beers. I was there yesterday and enjoyed my visit, much like I usually do. Recently it seems the range of beers has expanded into some things that might be considered a little more adventurous, which is good to see. If you're not into more unusual beers they have their standard range of familiar offerings that are more or less permanent features...
Read moreIn short - expensive, mediocre food. Atmosphere just ok, good service.
We used to come here often when we lived in Bellefonte, but havenât been there since probably before Covid and maybe only once since it wasnât Home D. The prices have really gone up, more than most other places. You canât really charge state college prices this far out of town. I had a burger and fries that were $17.50, and honestly it was not good enough to be a $10 burger. It was at most a 1/3 lb patty. It was good but it wasnât almost $20 good. Just a comparison, one of my favorite burgers in the area is the Rampage Jackson at Champs on N Atherton, itâs an 8 ounce burger, great quality patty, fresh in house ingredients, great roll and itâs $14.59, in a much more expensive area. Anyway, wife got a bowl of soup. She said it was ok, but again $9 for a bowl of soup, it better be amazing and there should be a lot of it. Her bowl was about an 8â bowl with maybe an inch of soup in it.
The service was good, waitress was attentive and friendly. I think her name was Hannah.
Atmosphere is ok, but nothing special. One side wants to be a sit down family restaurant, other side wants to be a sports bar, but both are just big rooms with tables and booths. I remember Home D having great pizza and wings, guess maybe I should go...
Read moreWe stopped in to have dinner and drinks on St Patrickâs Day. We ordered drinks-a shot and a beer for my husband and a top shelf Long Island iced tea for me. The waitress put in the order and then came back and asked my wife if i knew that the cost of the drink i ordered would cost double ( because if the top shelf request) and asked if i could afford it. Quite an insult. Then she brought my husband his shot only stating that he could not have more than 1 alcoholic drink at one time. My husband stated that had she told him that he would have requested the beer first. She just shrugged and walked off. Our food was horrendous. The onion ring appetizers were obviously old and just warmed up and mayonnaise was served as the dip. My husband then requested barbecue sauce which turned out to be ketchup. The cook came out snd said that he ran out of the mix for the sauce and didnât think anyone would notice. No apology and certainly no care. Obviously, we did not eat the appetizers. I ordered a turkey club sandwich which would have been excellent if any mayo had been put on it. However, my husbands white pizza was perfection. Bottom line, we donât recommend this place and will not go...
