This place is outstanding not only for the food but also the quality of service. The young man who was taking care of my family was attentive and very friendly.
We got a huge mix of food and all were delightful and if you see my other reviews you will clearly see Thai is my favorite so here is my review against 40 others in that area.
In regards to the dark brown sauce used for dumplings this place is the new champion and gas displaced Smiling Banana Leaf as my favorite for this type of sauce.
The rice soup, not offered anywhere else and was extremely good.
The hot teas, this place has the best I have had. The hot ginger team I had was sweetened perfectly and had a wonderful taste with a peppery follow through.
The classic staples of all Thai places here in Pittsburgh on regards to soup. The Tom Yum here was as good as I have had here in Pittsburgh, the broth was an outstanding balance of sweet and sour and it was stocked with with all the usuals that were also cooked perfectly. The Tom Kha soup here was different then a lot of other Thai places in the array the broth was thinner and less coconut cloudy but the taste of the coconut was as strong as the really milky Tom Kha I have had at other places, it tasted great and would rate 2nd in terms of the Pittsburgh area for me.
Alright noodle dishes time, they have a lot of them, more than most, so here is the general summary based on what we got. The different noodle types we got were all cooked perfectly the flavors matched expectations for what we got and the portion size was very good.
Finally the proteins, the meats here are straight up expectional and top tier for Pittsburgh. The chicken wasn't overcooked, the beef was the good lean kind and not that cheap fatty kind, the seafood was legit and not imitation kind.
So overall this places takes the number three spot on my Thai list but it's really close to 1 and 2 and beats both my top tier in regards to the dipping sauce and teas.
Maenam Thai continues to be my number one because of the Maenam pork soup which no other places has followed by red orchid as their level 10 is a true level 10 but I will for sure be making this one of my go to Thai places because it's very good and the distance to it is the same as Maenam and this place is opened on Sundays whereas Maenam is closed and Sundays are my favorite day for Thai.
If you in the area and Thai is on your mind this is a great place to stop for...
Read moreTo start, this is a decent option for Thai if you don't want to go into the city. It's convenient location for us and while it wasn't amazing, it was good enough. The 3 star rating is because there were several things that could have been improved on. We will try other items on the menu, so I do recommend it with the following in mind.
We ordered the Thai samosas, Red Curry w/tofu, Massaman curry w/tofu, Mango Bubble Tea, and Thai Tea bubble tea.
The samosas had a good flavor and nice crisp. A little oily.
Both curries were watery and a little under seasoned, but the vegetables still had a nice bite to them and the rice was appropriately fluffy and a little sticky. The tofu was a bit more oily than I'd have liked and gave the impression the tofu was fried at a lower temperature for longer vs higher temp quick fry.
The massaman curry had one small piece of potato and, for some reason, avocado. I've never seen a massaman with avocado and will admit it was strange, also not mentioned anywhere in the description. The nuts on it were cashew, not peanut. For us this was not a problem, but it should be specified on the menu.
The Thai bubble tea was under steeped but decent. The mango had no tea in it and tasted like a melted mango milkshake. I know a lot of bubble tea shops omit the tea, but it is disappointing.
The biggest issue with the bubble teas by far was the boba/tapioca pearls. They were overcooked and incredibly soft. The worst part, though, is that they were obviously not cooked in a syrup, a very important step. They are completely bland without sweetness and the combination of these two qualities made us throw out the boba portion of the drinks. It felt like the bubble tea was added to the menu as an after thought. I love all types of bubble tea but if this was my first experience with it I probably wouldn't...
Read moreI heard there was a recently opened Thai spot in Springdale, so naturally, I had to try it out. I wanted to stop in just for a quick snack, so when placing an order for dinner delivery, I added an order of Dee Dee's Thai custard with sticky rice.
The place itself is very hole in the wall from the outside. BUT, the food is very good. I didn't get to try much, but this was a great Thai custard. The portion was excellent (although the price is quite high on Doordash at $8, you can get it for $6 directly. For $6, this is a great portion).
The flavors were exactly how you want them to be. It's subtly sweet, slightly eggy custard atop of delicious, slightly firm sticky rice with some coconut milk mixed in. If I was being picky, maybe a little more coconut milk would have been even better (like coconut milk splashed on top!)
This place also serves all the Thai staples, like pad see ew, pad Thai, curries, dumplings, soups, rolls, salads, rangoons, fried rice, and so on. They also have some more unique items like BBQ, steam buns, zabb noodles, and others. Dee Dee even serves boba, ranging from Thai Tea milk tea to honeydew, mango, chocolate, strawberry, and even taro!
All in all, I'm so thrilled to have this place in Springdale. They offer an excellent menu with good prices and some unique items as well. The Thai custard and sticky rice I tried tonight...
