My husband and I came to Zion to spend both of our birthdays. I spent a good amount of time searching for our first celebratory meal after traveling all day from Atlanta to get here. We decided on this restaurant after reading about the fresh food that’s made in small batches (big deal for me!) and looking at some pictures and reviews. The elk burger, pistachio crusted chicken with delicious poblano cream sauce, sage buttered smashed potatoes, asparagus, and the lavender/lemon gin cocktail were all fantastic! Thank you chef and all the staff in the kitchen-you all did great!!!! And deserve all the stars!!!! The hostess was also nice and accommodating with a friendly welcome and smile. And thank you for letting us know where the restrooms were located without us asking. That is mindful and thoughtful service that we appreciate. All the stars for you too! As for our server YOU should find another industry to work in. You took a 5 star review to 2 stars! You obviously had an issue and I would hate to assume it had anything to do with the fact that my husband and I are not to your liking so to speak. But it was pretty obvious you had an issue. You acted like a robot order taker that cannot make eye contact. Your demeanor and lack of care or even basic sense of kindness is severely lacking. We noticed you changed up when taking care of another couple at a nearby table. You even had a friendly conversation with them. So you obviously know how to be a good server. We on the other hand were very nice to you despite your dismissive I don’t care what you eat or drink or do here attitude-and I asked you for your recommendations and you robotically responded. Great suggestions I will give you that. But maybe you should do some soul searching on why you are the way you are and make a change for the better. We got our dessert to go because of your unwelcoming behavior. Yes I was fully satisfied from my meal and wished we could’ve hung out and enjoyed the dessert there and maybe have another delicious lavender lemon pretty drink that by the way was delivered by a very kind man with a big smile. And I even had a nice conversation with him about how pretty the drink was with all the colors. He was exactly how a person should be! And especially one that works in a deliciously served restaurant that I wish WE could come back to during our stay here because there were more dishes I would’ve liked to try. But NOPE! So I hope management and the owners read this and deal with the fact that you have a biased server that has all the capabilities of making a great meal go bad because of his terrible service. And if you want more details on that service from that server then let me know because I am willing to give it. I just wanted people that read reviews to know and be aware that the bearded guy with the arm tattoos, one ear piercing with a diamond like earring and squats when he takes orders is not comfortable with serving bi-racial couples. I only gave his description so everyone knows which this one is. And the funny thing is his description isn’t the issue at all. Especially considering I like tattoos! Maybe he is the one that another reviewer posted about having a racial bias?! This is something to look into if you want your restaurant to be open and welcoming to...
Read moreThe food was flavorful, but our experience at Wild Thyme Cafe left us feeling unwelcomed and uncomfortable. Having visited Zion National Park several times in the past, my husband and I decided to plan a trip for my son's birthday and invite my parents to join us, as it is our favorite national park.To make the occasion even more special, I wanted to try a new restaurant for dinner after a long day of hiking. I looked for the best-reviewed places in the area and I narrowed it down to Wild Thyme Cafe at Tress Ranch. I examined the menu, reviews, and pictures from this cafe to make sure that I was making the right choice. I was in for a big surprise. After a long day of hiking, we arrived at the cafe around 5:30 PM on Friday, November 1st. Upon arrival, we were seated outside because our party of 7 was too "large" to sit inside at that time. We agreed because the views outside were beautiful. The hostess made sure we had some water and informed us that our waiter would soon be with us. Once our waiter arrived, he had the most unpleasant attitude; it was clear that he had no interest in providing even the most basic level of customer service. His demeanor was rude, dismissive, and far from the hospitality we expected at this establishment. He abruptly yanked the food menus out of my children's hands, wore earphones while serving, and responded to my simple inquiry about french fries with an unnecessarily rude and condescending tone. Despite this experience we chose to remain optimistic, assuming he might simply be having a difficult day. However, throughout the evening, we were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. He seemed irritated by simple requests, responding with a bad attitude that only made our experience uncomfortable. Before leaving, we decided to speak to the manager to address the employee's unprofessional behavior. The manager appeared sympathetic and assured us that he would follow up with the employee. Because of this experience, I will not be visiting this establishment...
Read morethe food: we ordered the wild thyme pasta and the bison tenderloin. the pasta was truly the worst I've ever tasted. they apparently only seasoned it with the thoughts and prayers of garlic. I've had lacroix with more flavor. the kraft mac and cheese I ate last night had more flavor. it was shockingly bad, like they only put olive oil and tomatoes on it and called it good. light food doesn't have to mean flavorless. the steak was very dissapointing as well, but still edible. we decided to cut our losses at the expensive drinks and leave without eating. we did indeed learn to read when we were young, and know the difference between bison and beef. bison is the best meat around here, and is pretty hard to mess up so I don't know what went wrong.
the atmosphere: I've never been to a restaurant that serves 55$ steaks and also has TVs everywhere and visible beverage machines. it felt like an expensive, poorly run applebees. it's fine dining prices with takeout vibes. let's choose one side next time. I can't pay 55$ for a steak when I'm listening to AJR and Paramore on the radio.
the service: for not even eating our meal, we spent an hour at the restaurant. they seemed understaffed and really casual about everything. I'm sure they were doing their best, but I couldn't help but notice the weird attitude of the staff. they didn't offer to fix anything when we said that we didn't like the food, which is fine because we didn't want to stay there anyways, but it was poor service.
I couldn't sit there without feeling sick to my stomach about the experience. I'm glad we left. I have NEVER done that before but we had to leave. it was so bad. don't get caught up in the romance of the canyon and give this place 5 stars for that. stop to think about if this is actually a...
