Review for Boricua Bites – $5 Thursday Special
I had the pleasure of visiting Boricua Bites today to take advantage of their $5 Thursday special, and as always, the food was wonderfully flavorful. I have no complaints regarding the taste, and I’ve previously given the establishment a glowing review. In fact, I wrote a heartfelt message on the day of their grand opening, and I was proud to do so.
I’m originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, but my son resides in Springfield. He purchased a home here about a year ago, and I’ve been traveling back and forth, gradually familiarizing myself with the area in anticipation of a future move. Establishments like Boricua Bites ease that transition—the ambiance truly captures the authentic spirit of Boricua culture. From the palm trees to the Puerto Rican flag mural and domino designs, the décor evokes the feeling of being on the island. The staff is consistently warm and attentive, something I deeply value.
However, there was a minor misunderstanding today. I contacted the restaurant via Facebook to request a substitution on the “matamonchi” plate—specifically, I wished to replace the macaroni salad with potato salad. I received confirmation that this would be possible, but upon arrival, I was informed that substitutions could not be made without an additional charge. Furthermore, the portion of potato salad I was given was rather small, almost resembling leftovers.
I considered leaving, but I felt it was important to voice my concerns in a calm and respectful manner. I spoke with the manager, who informed me that he was the one who had responded to my message on Facebook. I explained the discrepancy between the online communication and the in-person policy. Fortunately, the manager was understanding and resolved the issue, for which I am sincerely grateful.
This experience has not diminished my opinion of Boricua Bites. On the contrary, it has deepened my appreciation. Before I left, the manager took a photo with me and generously gifted me a beautiful wooden board—the kind traditionally used to serve tostones or mofongo. I was so moved, I nearly cried. I even asked if they sold them, as I was ready to make a purchase, but he insisted on giving it to me as a gift. Such gestures are rare in today’s world.
Puerto Rican people are known for their humility, generosity, and kind hearts. They give without expecting anything in return, and today, I was reminded of that beautiful spirit. I love my Puerto Rican people. Thank you, Boricua Bites, for such a meaningful and delicious experience. I will certainly...

Then they couldn't find the ham cause it was misplaced.
I had to change my order to a pernil sandwich. The nastiest sandwich ever.
The pernil was dried and the bread was over cooked, they didn't put any mayo no lettuce tomatoes, just dried up salty pernil with a an over cooked bread....
Read moreWe ordered 2 plates of carne frita with fries and it was a sad plate the portions were so small. We also order a tripleta sandwich that was really good and a modo go ball order that is advertised that it comes with shrimp and herb sauce but when my husband went there they said it was just the balls so false advertisement. Ordering on the doordash app is ridiculous you have to make separate payments if you are ordering from different menus. I hope with time small issues can get better is a really nice place that needs...
