Del's Cafe — Restaurant in St. Charles

We've frequented Del's for a while now since we moved into the area 6 years ago. Normally, the food is good and the service is fine. But, last time we couldn't have been more dissatisfied. I ordered the burger of the month, which is their breakfast burger. It came with one burnt slice of bacon and the mayo that I ordered on the side took an extra 10 minutes because the waitress couldn't stop bantering back-and-forth with the other customers. She simply can't focus on her job, which she seems to think is having loud and obnoxious random conversations with the customers. She makes the entire experience awkward. She actually asked 2 young gentlemen who were in the area studying for the priesthood, that I assume were just there for a nice meal and a little relaxation, why they couldn't find girlfriends and why God makes evil people. Extremely rude staff. Would not recommend this place. Went here during prime lunch hour and we were the only people in there, which was quickly obvious as to why no one else was there. I visited this cafe with two other people, and I have a special diet so I brought a couple of bananas to eat, and Carrie, our waitress, was immediately unfriendly to me by telling me to take my stuff off the table and then told me I couldn't eat or drink anything brought into the restaurant from outside. And if I was going to finish my Gatorade it had to be in one of their glasses, I couldn't drink it out of it's bottle. What!? Who cares!? So I did not order anything however the two other people in our party of 3 did order food which they said was "okay" but the portions were small. Then she was very rude to my friend at the end of our visit regarding if he wanted a cc receipt or not. She treated us very poorly and I would not come back here again...

The food itself wasn't all THAT BAD. when I walked in, there were probably no more than 7 people (3 tables) dining already. It's a seat yourself diner. Once we sat down, it took the waitress (there were 2) almost 10 minutes to come and ask what we wanted for drinks and then another almost 10 minutes for her to bring them to us. I ordered the daily special (2 piece chicken) and my hubby ordered a hot beef. We waited for about 15 minutes for the food.

What really grossed me out and made me lose my appetite was the amount of FLIES EVERYWHERE. SO GROSS. FLIES IN THE SALAD BAR. FLIES BUZZING AROUND ME AND LANDING ON ALL OF THE TABLES, GLASSES, NOT TO MENTION YOU YOURSELF.
