A meatball sandwich that could broker peace treaties and a pasta salad that whispers sweet nothings in Italian.
Listen, I’ve stood in line for many things in life—DMV tickets, concert merch, a flu shot in 2003—but nothing, nothing, felt more righteous than waiting to place my order at Adriana’s On the Hill. Nestled right in the heart of St. Louis’ legendary Italian neighborhood, this place doesn’t just serve lunch. It serves legacy, heritage, and a big ol’ spoonful of Sicilian soul.
The line? Yeah, there’s a line. But you’ll make friends. You’ll overhear stories. You’ll consider whether you’re patient enough to become a better man. And by the time you get to the counter, greeted with that efficient warmth that only a well-oiled family-run joint can offer, you’ll feel like you earned it.
They’ve got indoor and outdoor seating, but I grabbed a spot outside—and I’m glad I did. There’s something about sitting back on that patio, digging into a hot sandwich, and watching the neighborhood roll by that makes you feel like you belong there. Like maybe—just maybe—you’re one of the locals who knows this is where the magic happens.
I went for the half-and-half lunch special: half a meatball sandwich and a side of pasta salad. Let me tell you, this wasn’t some dainty midday snack. This was lunch with backbone.
The sandwich? Oh my. A sesame-seeded roll so crusty and soft it could’ve come straight from Nonna’s kitchen. Inside: meatballs—plump, juicy, perfectly spiced—bathed in a house red sauce so rich it probably has its own offshore bank account. Topped with bubbling mozzarella and love. Every bite had me questioning my life choices: Why haven’t I moved to The Hill yet? Why did I ever eat meatballs from anywhere else?
And that pasta salad? Don’t sleep on the side, folks. Bowtie pasta, bell peppers, herbs, vinaigrette—it was bright, zesty, and refreshingly cold in the best possible way. Like the food equivalent of taking your shoes off after a long day. I caught myself slow-chewing just to stretch the moment out.
It’s counter-service. It’s busy. It’s loud in the best kind of way—filled with laughter, accents, and the shuffle of regulars who know what’s good and don’t need a menu.
Would I go back? I’d fly here just to do it again. I’d wait twice as long next time. Heck, I’d bring a folding chair and call it a picnic.
10/10. Would let Adriana’s adopt me as their...

I went to Adriana’s on the Hill the other night—lemme tell ya, it was so good I proposed to the lasagna. My wife wasn’t thrilled, but hey, that ricotta had layers! I get no respect, I tell ya.
From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in trouble. The place was so classy, even the bread basket had a better suit than me! I asked the waiter if I should take off my hat—he said, “Just your expectations, sir. We’re about to blow your mind.”
The food? Fuggedaboutit.
I ordered the chicken parm—it came out lookin’ like it bench-pressed other chicken parms for breakfast. The sauce? Smooth, rich, and probably made by an Italian grandma with mystical powers. I took one bite and heard Dean Martin start singing in my head. That’s amore, baby!
My buddy got the bolognese. He hasn’t spoken since. Just keeps muttering “meat magic” and staring at his fork. I don’t blame him. That pasta was so fresh, I think it tried to walk off the plate.
The service? Like family—if your family actually likes you. These folks treat you like a VIP, even if you’re just a guy in a wrinkled sport coat trying to impress a date with a Groupon. The waiter asked how I liked my food—I told him, “I want to be buried in it.”
Atmosphere? Fancier than a tuxedo on a pizza delivery guy. Cozy, romantic, but still had room for a guy like me who sweats through polyester. I even leaned back in my chair and didn’t fall over—that’s a first!
I told the hostess, “You should raise the prices, this food’s too good!” She said, “We’d rather raise your standards.” Ba-da-bing!
So if you want a meal that’ll make your Nonna cry and your taste buds write thank-you notes, go to Adriana on the Hill. It’s got charm, flavor, and more style than I’ve ever had—even on prom night!
I give it five meatballs outta five—and that’s without the indigestion.
I tell ya, it’s the real deal. Now if only my wife looked at me the way I looked at...
Read moreSandwich Club STL visited Adriana's On The Hill. Saturday Dec 22nd at 1:00 pm. Everyone loves Adriana's and it shows from the moment you walk through the front door. This place with its limited hours is busy from the moment they open to closing time.We actually visited during the week one time over the summer on a Tuesday at 2:00 pm and we waited in line for a good while. That being said, bring your patience. The service is actually really great and the line moves fairly steadily. There will be plenty of time to make your decision on what you would like by the time you get to the counter. This place is small and there is limited amounts of seating. If you are not into crowds we would suggest go elsewhere. Putting that aside we still give them 5 stars.Hey we cant fault them for being too busy. That's exactly what you want for a local family run business. It's all about the sandwiches and they are good, really good. Think light fluffy breads stuffed with good quality Italian meats and cheeses. Oh and they are big so you get quality and quantity. We ordered the BIG JACK:- Mortadella on Provolone garlic cheese bread topped with olive Relish and the BEEF & PHILLY hot roast beef and cream cheese.(Thank You Pat one of our club members for introducing me to this taste sensation). We got both sandwiches toasted. Funny thing, My wife ordered the BIG JACK and we split and shared each others half.I'm not a big fan of mortadella, however with the cheese bread and olive relish it works & it was delicious. If you are looking for a great sandwich and got some free time visit Adriana's.You wont be disappointed. SANDWICH CLUB STL, for the love of...
