Gelato Di Riso — Restaurant in St. Louis

In the mood for a light tasteful dessert, then the family owned Gelato Di Riso is definitely for you! When you walk inside, you are immediately greeted with a warm atmosphere of the restaurant. The employees are very kind and nice! They inform you on all the flavors and allow you to try them all, until you pick your favorite one! The ingredients are selected from authentic businesses in Italy to ensure authentic flavors, color, and texture in each scoop of their gelato. I tried the lime gelato and found that it had a great kick of flavor and sourness. It tasted like I was actually eating a lime and it was delicious! Another one that we got was blood orange and just like the lime, it has an intense flavor, with a citrus taste. Both of them are very good and light, which doesn't leave a heavy feeling in your stomach. To finish it all up, I tried an Italian cream soda, with vanilla. It was just as great as the gelato. Last night was my first time trying Gelato Di Riso. Frankly, I have minimal experience with gelato. I tend to prefer good soft serve or high quality ice cream like Clementine's.

I was definitely not disappointed. In fact, I liked it so much that I had to try two additional flavors after my first order.

I first ordered the Grasshopper (Mint Cookie) Gelato. The mint flavor was perfect--neither too strong nor two subtle--and the Grasshopper cookie pieces were a nice addition.

Since I was feeling fruity, I decided to order a fruity flavor next. Blackberry gelato caught my eye, and I have always liked blackberry ice cream. This too had solid flavor, and I think that it would be great on a nice, warm summer evening. I also decided to try the Pumpkin Pie gelato. This was the best of the three. It tasted just like a good pumpkin pie, and I really enjoyed it.

I definitely preferred the milk-based gelato (Grasshopper and Pumpkin Pie) over the water-based (Blackberry). Nevertheless, all three were fantastic.

Lastly, the employee on duty was very nice...

So…first time I’ve ever gone here.

1. Make sure you are white or else a 16 year old employee will mumble under their breath (but loudly) you are not welcome here as soon as you walk in.
2. Then they made one scoop into a cup and their machine tries to force you to tip…when this was NEVER a tippable service before COVID and these newer machines that try to guilt you into it. I hit “no tip” and another high schooler grabs the receipt. Stares at it for 10 seconds very closely, then looks up at me with his face scrunched, then back at the receipt for 5 seconds, and then throws it at me and says “have a good day” with a look of pure displeasure. I just can’t get over how insane of a visit it was to simply get a scoop of gelato. I can’t believe how brash and rude the workers were. The gelato was average at best anyway.
