Outstanding Homemade Food. As lots of reviews here will attest, the pie is fantastic. We had the chicken pot pie (one for each), a slice of apple and a slice of pecan. Every one of them was "mmmm" inducing. It's well worth a stop if you love really good, homemade food. Here's what you should know:

  1. It's expensive. We had two chicken pot pies (served with chips or salad), two slices of pie (one with whipped cream and one with ice cream), two cups of coffee and a bottle of water. The bill came to over $55 before taxes and tip.
  2. There is no complementary water. A small bottle costs about two bucks. You need to grab yourself it from the cooler up front (it won't come out with your order).
  3. Whipped cream and/or ice cream on your pie is an upcharge ($1.59 and $2.89, respectively).
  4. We could have split one chicken pot pie, which I'd recommend if you're on a budget.
  5. Everything is self serve. You order and pay at the counter, then you're given a buzzer which will alert you when your food is ready. You'll then pick it up on a tray and bring it to one of the tables.
  6. We didn't know exactly what we were going to get until we got up to the register and that made it feel very rushed and awkward. There are a lot of choices, so I'd recommend not getting in line until you know what you're going to order.
  7. The coffee is very good, and it's also self serve.
  8. You'll bus your own table. There's a bus station with a bus tub on top of the garbage can. Put your plates and other washables into the tub (*The forks are, unfortunately, plastic), throw the trash in the can, then place your tray on the stand beside the the trash can.
  9. There's a sign on the door that says no public restroom, but if you make a purchase, you'll get a code for the restroom printed on your receipt. Once inside, there are little signs instructing you how to lock the door and how to flush the toilet.
  10. The person who checked us out made it clear that we didn't have to tip, but I paid with a card and - as is my habit - I added a respectable tip. Given the price of the food and the start-to-finish self-service nature of the experience, I would have felt okay tipping less or not at all. TL;DR: Very good, but relatively expensive, homemade food in a fast casual...

I’ll start of with some positives: This is a very clean place and they have a wide variety of pies. There are some fun and unique food items on the menu, too. The shops connected are also fun with lots of options of candy and homemade goods. I really ended up liking the pie cookies. Now, onto the experience that sort of made me sad.

No one working made a point to even try to be friendly to me. The guy at the counter didn’t say hi first and seemed irritated with me. I tipped 25% and didn’t even get a thank you. He was the same one up at the counter when my food was ready (it took quite a while) And I made a point to say thank you again. I don’t know if he just didn’t hear me or chose to ignore me, but I felt out of place. I sat in the dining area to eat and he asked others how their food was but didn’t ask me. I noticed that everyone else there was from a different generation and I am younger with lots of tattoos. So maybe it was a situation where younger people aren’t treated the same, but I am a respectable person. I tip well, politely order, clean up my own mess and smile and say thank you. It was really weird and I don’t think I did anything wrong. I drove quite a distance to visit, so it just dampened the entire experience to not feel welcome. Again, it made me sad and felt a little invisible overall with the experience. If you like pies and a quaint experience, don’t take my emotions here to heart. You may still...

Wow, we walked into one side of this store without realizing just how big it is - and it is BIG! Multiple rooms and even a second story for seating (up a very steep staircase - I loved the USE EXTREME CAUTION signs). Indeed the staircase probably isn't for the elderly but there is still plenty of seating downstairs too.

Lots of different "stations" with great local products - exactly what I look for. I got some local Wisconsin coffee from the cute little birch tree stand. There are cookbooks, cooking supplies, kitchen supplies, gifts and novelties, whiskey beer and wine, and that's just in the first room!

The alcohol selection was especially great. Tons of local vineyards with Wisconsin and Minnesota wine - exactly what I want! Also interesting flavored brandies and rums, hard alcohol, unique brewed beers and ales, the whole works. Cheese and peanut butter too. Best of all, they have a daily tasting menu, and it's BIG, so you can get a good sample of everything you want to try.

The next room is full of candy and sweets and treats, especially great for kids.

The end room - the biggest - is the cafe, diner, and pie station. They have a nice lunch menu, good coffee and espresso, and a TON of pies. Oh, and also ice cream in a variety of flavors. Soups, salads, sandwiches....

This place is more like a 4.7 stars. Very quaint and not fussy. They have vegetarian as well as meat options for food. We didn't end up going into the store itself just had lunch and dessert. The happy hippy wrap was delicious and well seasoned. It did come with a tiny side of house made pickles (cucumber slices with the pickle juice). My spouse ate the cucumbers and small pieces of onion and the pickle juice that's how good it was. He's not much of a veggie fan so that was impressive. My spouse got the chicken pot pie which he said was delicious. Super flaky crust and filling was on point. It came with a side salad. For dessert we each got a slice of pie, one apple and the other raspberry and blackberry. The slices were like a 4th of a 9 inch pie with copious amounts of whip cream on top. My raspberry/blackberry pie was great for the first 2 bites and that became way too sweet! I tried to balance it out with the whip cream but eventually ended up trying to scoop out filling and eat the crust. The crust is everything you would want a crust to be. Definitely a place we would go back to!!
