Mable's Barbeque Smoked Meat — Restaurant in Stonecrest

I always look for the "Mom and Pop" places to eat, and I'll probably get "burned" one day, but not today! This is a BBQ shack in a roadside strip mall that you really don't even see while riding down the road. It's not really in a city anywhere, and it's far from anything you might call a highway---which is fine with me because I travel the backroads, avoiding highways like the plague. It's the backroads where you find the real America---and the Mom and Pop stores. Go ahead, argue with me. Lots of folks disagree with me because I judge a BBQ shack by their ability to do ribs right. Fine. But I'm here to tell you, Mable's does ribs and everything else right! They have a lot of sides, but not all of them every day. I'm going back to try their pulled pork and Brunswick Stew, but today I had ribs, cabbage, and collard greens. I almost passed on the collard greens and opted for rice pilaf, but something said, "Get the greens". I am so glad I listened! Wow! Wow! Wow! And I topped it all off with the finest REAL Southern sweet tea in Georgia. Almost put me in diabetic coma! One more thing: Mable's BBQ sauce tastes like BBQ sauce is supposed to taste. I prefer a mustard/vinegar-based sauce because BBQ sauce shouldn't be just sweet. Well, Mable's is none of the above. It's just real; just what I always knew BBQ sauce should taste like. And there was the perfect amount on the meat---not drowned. I could taste the ribs, and the sauce only complimented the flavor. Today was my first time there. It will also be my last. I went inside to place my order & before I could say anything the young man (not very polite) told me they were out of ribs, rib tips & white meat chicken of any type. This was 2 HOURS before closing!! I gave them the benefit of the doubt & ordered 2 dark meats chicken platters. they asked if I wanted bbq sauce! Of course I did I was at a bbq restaurant to get bbq! When it was ready they bagged it up & I went home. They gave me 1chick platter & 1 chick sandwich! The menu said the chicken a quarter chick but it was a like a child's plate anywhere else. Small scrawny pieces of chicken. Sides were okay but nothing to brag about to top it off there was no bbq sauce on the meat or even a container of bbq sauce! Today I had the worst experience with Mabel’s barbecue I ordered a family meal came all the way up to the restaurant getting out my car just to receive a phone call that they had nothing in my family meal I ordered which included a slab of ribs and a half of a chicken, a large mac & cheese a large green beans and a large Collard greens! So instead of me leaving the restaurant, I decided to just go ahead and order again. Just to sit there another 15 minutes waiting for my order to be told that again they don’t have nothing that I ordered. I decided to keep the poor chicken sandwich because I was hungry but I decided to cancel my order because it was unjustifiable the way I was treated and the way was delivered all the news! I am super upset with Mabel’s barbecue and they need to do better than prepared on Sundays for a busy morning...
