After visiting today I was not very happy with anything at this tea house. First we were told that you cannot share pots of tea, which by the way each pot holds about 10-12 cups of tea. I asked our server for empty pots so that before our teas get too bitter we could transfer it out of one pot and into another. I was told no, and instead she would just add extra water. I didn't want diluted tea I only wanted to keep it from the bitterness you get when loose leaf tea sits. And for as long as it would have taken me to drink 10 cups of tea I needed it. On to lunch. I believe we were seriously overcharged. My mother who ordered the cup of stew was told it could not be part of the duo or trio lunch special but when my daughter ordered it as a side it was the same size as my moms. Then they charged extra for the pretzel salad. Which if I read the menu correctly she could have gotten both in the combo lunch. Regardless for $60 it was not worth it. Way too expensive. Yes, the chicken salad I had was good, and the lemon tea bread was good but come on for that price each table should include a free loaf of bread. Unfortunately our server must not have liked going up and down steps because once she delivered our food she never even came back and then we waited another 15 minutes after we were done for our bill, which I had to eventually get from the front desk. I don't ever plan on returning for the lousy service and not so good food for the price. Many other...
Read moreI visited Miss Hickory's tea room with my sister. We enjoyed it, but it didn't quit hit all my marks. I'm happy I tried it, but I'm not sure I'll be back. They charge for each pot of tea and desserts separate from the tea service. I liked the BLT, egg salad, & cucumber sandie, but I could not stomach the chicken salad. The lemon loaf was dry but tasty, and there was only 2 fresh strawberries, 1 for each of us as the fruit. They also charge separately for the cup of soup, which was a very thin potato, but good, they could have topped with with cheese to add a needed saltiness.
Pleasant service and desserts, but everything savory needed salt. I loved the devonshire cream, but the scone was more like a biscuit. I got a holiday spice black tea that tasted stale and off-putting which I struggled through. I also got the pumpkin spice black and it was absolutely outstanding however it wasn't served with warm milk as it stated. My sister got lemon green and it was stellar. All around good atmosphere and decent experience.
Last note, it smelled like fresh step when I walked in. My sister and I are allergic to cats, there had to have been some there. She broke out and I'm in immunotherapy and was very uncomfortable by the time I left. I wanted to give 3 stars, but as I said, I do not think I...
Read moreReservations are a must. And you will likely have to park on the street but it is well worth it. The food is excellent and the ambiance is perfect for a tea room. My quiche was incredible and so filling I didn't have dessert but my friends had the special cake and the bread pudding and loved them both. There is a patio with umbrellas for outdoor seating. If you have a problem with stairs make that known when making your reservation because the stairs are a bit steep, typical of an old house. The tea was good and there were about 30+ flavors to choose from as well as cold drinks and coffee. No alcohol. Check the hours--we went on a Saturday and they closed at 3 pm. They didn't rush us out and in fact we were there til about 3:30 taking pictures and eating dessert. Great place for a special event--but don't expect one big table, you will be seated at smaller tables close...
