Where do I begin, had we not been there meeting my stepson for his birthday, we would have NEVER stayed at this place. They had a table and drinks when we got there. The waitress came over after us sitting there for a bit, we ordered one soda and a bottle of beer for drinks the soda came after about 10 minutes and it took 30 minutes to get the bottle of beer. The waitress kept coming back and saying that the bar was busy but it was coming she probably told us that three times. I asked for a sample of their Jack Daniels sauce before I ordered it on food in my opinion it was very runny and the worst thing I have ever tasted considering she did not bring me a spoon to try a sample she brought a basket of bread and told me to dip in the bread and it was dripping across the table off the bread it was so runny. She finally came and took our orders I ended up ordering a salad with grilled chicken as nothing else on the menu sounded good most had that nasty Jack Daniels sauce on it or was very spicy. We ended up getting refills on the three sodas and ordered another bottle of beer that took another 25 minutes to get the waitress came back and said that the bartender told her she was getting to it and she just had to wait the waitress came to our table and told us this and told us that she told the bartender she is a waitress has already been waiting 20 minutes for a second bottle of beer. My salad came in a bowl that is tipped on its side almost like on the pedestal tomatoes cucumbers etc. were not cut up in the salad. So trying to cut a salad that’s on a pedestal slanted bowl was next to impossible everything kept flinging out on my lap. It was a good thing for them that it was my stepson’s birthday or it would not of been a pretty scene in that restaurant because I would have confronted the waitress and the owner with the poor service and poor food issues. However I did excuse myself from the table and told them I was going to the restroom, and went back to the waitress stand and asked to speak to the owner or manager I was told that he just left so I asked to speak to whoever was in charge they said there was no one. They asked what the problem was then our waitress approach the waitress stand right when they asked me who our waitress was so I pointed at her when she walked up. They took my phone number And told me they would have the owner call me tomorrow and that was seven days ago. I clearly see where the bartender which I was told was the owner’s mother or wife or somebody, and waitstaff get their training if it takes a week for the owner to contact a customer regarding a problem that is pretty pathetic. I would not even give this restaurant a one star they did not even bring a glass of water while we were waiting for the bottle of beer. Decided to go to Donavito's for my birthday dinner last night. We frequented this restaurant pre-pandemic, but had not been there for a while. As always, the staff was friendly, and service was excellent. We were a tad disappointed with our dinners, however. My husband has always enjoyed the Walleye Italiano, so that is what he ordered. I tried something new, Blackened Scallops. When our dinners arrived, we both noticed that the walleye looked much different than it had in the past. Instead of a light sauce, it was heavily coated with red sauce, and had a thick coating of melted cheese on top. Not at all what he was expecting, but he ate it, and said it was not bad, but he liked it better the way he had it there before. My Blackened Scallops were perfectly cooked, tender and sweet, and the greens looked nice, but were drenched in sweet Thai chili sauce. I was expecting a light drizzle over the scallops perhaps, but everything was sitting a a pool of sauce. I ate the scallops, and some of the greens, but really could not taste the greens for the overload of sauce. When our plates were cleared, I mentioned it to our server, who very kindly offered an order of greens to take home, but I declined. So, not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but the food really wasn't as good we remembered. Could not get them to respond to my repeated phone calls to inquire about their catering services for a small family group min June 2017. I called on a Monday and talked with a female employee, was put on hold for couple of minutes when she came back and told me the boss would have to call me back. Left my name and phone number but never got a response. Did the same thing the next day with the same result. Again on a third day I was connected to a male employee who told me that it looked like my selected date was open until 5pm but he would need to have the boss call me back, which he never did. Can't believe that only one person and one person only can answer catering questions or reserve a date. Their website is terrible, it only shows photos, no menu or pricing like many other catering websites in the area. A terrible experience and I or my family will probably never eat...
