I find some of these reviews quite amusing. To be honest, if I had read them first I probably would have chosen a different restaurant in town and passed on Open Season.

My experience with this restaurant proves just the opposite and not going would have been a mistake. This also further reinforces my thinking that I should make my own choices and not let someone form an opinion for me.

The restaurant is nicely decorated inside and out. Starting with the stag horn entry door handles leading to the “open season” theme through the dining room everything was charming. The rustic heavy wooden chairs engraved with the logo were very stylish and the high back booth seats offered a nice sense of privacy. The “open season” theme is again accented with wildlife mounts displayed overhead around the room with an impressive antler chandelier hung from the ceiling. Stuttgart is after all the “duck hunting capitol of the world”. Everything fits right in! I question why some find the décor unappetizing yet order “steak” from the menu.

Upon entering I found it delightful to be seated immediately and our drink order taken, as opposed to having my name put on a list and handed a beeper with an expected thirty to forty minute wait time at restaurants that pale in comparison to this one. Wash room facilities were extremely clean with attention to detail.

I do not drink alcohol but was able to clearly read and understand there was a membership required to do so. If I were inclined to have an adult beverage I wouldn’t hesitate to become a member. I suspect one person could pay the reasonable membership fee and order drinks for everyone.

The offering of appetizers on the menu was different from the usual “chips and dips” or microwaved frozen items I’m accustomed to seeing. We opted for the fried cheese bites which turned out to be an excellent choice, delivered piping hot, plentiful, and in a very short amount of time.

Some of the reviews mention slow service and I did not find this to be the case at all. The wait time between the appetizers and the main entrée was very reasonable, which afforded an opportunity for very enjoyable conversation along with a chance to take in the pleasant atmosphere.

We’re not one to order the most expensive thing on the menu when first visiting a restaurant and then complain some little something was wrong. We find the “let’s try this first” approach and see how it goes seems to work just fine for us.

Expanding on that thought, we decided on the chicken tenders and hamburger steak, both of which turned out to be excellent and not at all pricy. As an extra endorsement, I have eaten hamburger steak from Austin to Boston over the years and this one, in my opinion, was the best I’ve had. The truffle potatoes were also delicious as were the additional side item. We both were in agreement that the spotlight should also be shined on the chicken tenders. These were not the typical, same old same old, off the back of the restaurant truck, frozen and heated, variety often seen. They were hand breaded, seasoned perfectly, and equally delicious. Both meals were of plentiful proportion requiring a take home box to be exact.

We were able to exchange one of the side items for another with no substitution charge which I thought was very customer friendly and not allowed at many places.

Finishing up with a chocolate lava cake, served warm. and topped with ice cream, we were both totally satisfied with the entire experience from start to finish.

The meal came to just over forty dollars including a twenty percent (I should have left more) tip.

We are already planning a return trip. I would encourage anyone to visit and form your own opinion. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Nice job...

Great local establishment with some tasty options!

TL:DR Got this recommendation from a local, and it didn't disappoint. Exceptionally friendly service, great food. The only mild disappointment was dessert - molten lava cake and the skillet cookie were just okay.

Details: Here on a weeknight during work travel, and heard from a local this was the place to be. It has great themed decor (so many deer racks mounted... don't go if you are offended by animal trophies.)

The menu was wide and has quite a few delicious sounding dishes. I ended up with the Diablo Burger, which was wonderful - the elote dip on top was amazing!

We had the spicy cheese bites (Wonderful!) and the spicy pickle bites, which I was assured were very tasty.

The chicken dishes seemed to get the most attention, which everyone who had strips or sandwiches raving about how juicy and delicious it was.

We ordered a couple of desserts, and that was the only disappointing part. The skillet cookie was dry, and the molten lava cake was only mediocre.

Our server was wonderful and attentive, and the whole experience was great overall - will visit again when...

My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner here. It was not too busy. We tried the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer. They were perfectly cooked! Our main courses consisted of a chef salad with a generous portion of grilled shrimp, and the pork loin with sauteed veggies and mashed potatoes. The pork loin was juicy, very flavorful, and piping hot. It was perfectly cooked. Dessert was a delicious slice of carrot cake with whipped cream from scratch. The cream cheese icing and roasted pecans went great with the caramel sauce. I'm not normally a carrot cake fan, but if all were like this, I could be converted. All in all the atmosphere was quite, but I can see where this place could be a party waiting to happen. The prices are very fair for portion size. The only downside from it all is that I believe the mashed potatoes seemed lacking. That is the only reason this new eatery did not get 5 stars, however we will return to try other things on the menu. Every dish that was being served looked delicious. Last but not least, the wait staff was very attentive and...
