My wife and I treated a friend to dinner at Damenti's this past Sunday. After Jack the waiter delivered our drinks, we had to flag him down to take our order after 15 minutes. He had to go and get an order pad to write on. We were so excited to see fried green tomatoes and stuffed squash flowers as a specials. They are two of our favorites. The fried green tomatoes should have been listed as fried green tomato chips, They were paper thin and so over salted they were almost inedible. Now comes the stuffed squash flower it looked like a square of fried mozzarella. There was no resemblance to a squash flower, they were way over coated with breading. Then comes the entrees, the duck was nicely done but excuse the pun (swimming in raspberry sauce ). The sauce on the Veal/Eggplant Parmigiana was thick and pastie and over kill, if it came with pasta that would be a different story. We chose creamed spinach as a side, I do believe they left out the cream sauce. It was thick and dry, the side portions were minuscule. The restaurant was only 25% full so it wasn't that our waiter Jack was overworked. He seemed to be more interested in socializing at the bar. He never refilled our water glasses or ask if we wanted more bread and reached in front of you to clear dishes. For an upscale restaurant the food and service does no where justify the prices. The 1 star is for the decor and view. Needless to say we...
Read moreThis restaurant aspires to be fine dining, with dim lighting and artistic decor. However, their menu falls short. Some of the food was good, other items left a lot to be desired. For example, the breading on the fried mozzarella was soggy and disappointing. The shrimp cocktail, all 3 shrimp, were served on a mixed green salad with a splat of cocktail sauce on the side. Did I mention it cost $15? For that price, I was concerned that there would be too many shrimp for a single person, but no worries, as there is no way to equitably share 3 shrimp! The entrees followed the same suit. For $45, one receives 2 slices of steak and the option of potato OR vegetable. I've never experienced a restaurant that served one or the other, particularly at that price point. The chef's take on traditional fare, such as chicken marsala, is unique to say the least. I've never been served marsala with an orange sauce. The rack of lamb was flavorful and cooked to the requested temperature, but the way it was served was not in keeping with a fine dinning restaurant. Two portions were two chops, one of which had a broken, splintered bone, and the third was three chops. For a $300 bill, I was left disappointed and still a bit hungry! I would not visit again, instead I would prefer to visit an establishment that I know will not diaappoint, particularly...
Read moreMy husband made reservations for Mothers day. We have never been at Damenti's before. We walked in ant the older hostess woman looked at our 5 year old daughter(whom is a very well behaved little girl) as if she was infected with a virus, then she asked my husband five different questions about our reservations until she finally said "ohh...ya...I see...I believe this is you. We shrugged it off and followed her to our table. My husband liked his dinner, I ordered a $26 grilled chicken salad, very small,, came on a plate, so it all fell off the plate when I try to cut it,, and the clicked was fatty but tasted very good and even though they brought the wrong dish and forgot her mashed potatoes the first time when they got it right, my daughter liked hers. They never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks or came to freshen our water..After spending $130, and poor service we left...walked past the hostess on our way out and she didn't say a word to us. My daughter didn't say a peep but I'm guessing they don't like or want children at their establishment. There are far better restaurants with great service in the area, we won't be going back nor...
