Horrible experience. Our car broke down and we were forced to stay here until we could find a mechanic the next day. We were told the only available room was a suite - although the parking lot was mostly vacant - but we were offered a discount rate of $136. We had no choice, so we took it.
When we entered the room, we thought it looked very nice, but we quickly realized everything was slightly damp. The air conditioner was on, but despite this all of the bedding and the carpeting were cold and clammy. Very unpleasant. But we had no other option because they claimed the hotel was full... even though it seemed as quiet as a ghost town.
We left to have dinner nearby, and upon our return, we were informed we had been locked out of our room (with all of our belongings inside) because an employee had accidentally deleted our registration information. We were forced to re-register and let them swipe our credit card a second time. Only then could we go back to our room.
The bed was memory foam, and far too soft for my bad back. So I was forced to use the pull-out sleep sofa, which was also terribly uncomfortable. So I had to pull the sofa mattress onto the floor, just to get some back support. Then, when putting the sheet on the sleep-bed mattress, we noticed a large urine stain on the mattress pad! It was not a new stain, but one does NOT expect to find something like that in an expensive suite at a relatively new, upscale motel. You'd think they would have discarded it and gotten a new one!
The next morning, the 'complimentary' breakfast was mostly inedible. Dense powdered eggs, limp, greasy bacon, a waffle maker with slop all around it... so we ended up eating at a nearby Denny's, because it was so unappetizing.
Then, several weeks later, we got our bank statement and discovered we had been double charged! I was forced to call, then put on hold for about 10 minutes, listening the the same looping advertisement for the hotel, before someone actually looked into the problem. They apologized and said they would refund the money... but if we had not noticed, they would have stolen $107.55 from us! This was not even the same amount as the room cost ($136.75) so I have NO idea where that $107.55 'glitch' came from.
DO NOT STAY HERE. This place may look nice on the surface, but it is a total dump, and probably a giant scam, too. If you HAVE to stay in Hazleton, PA, you are better off staying at the Best Western. It is older and less 'upscale' looking, but the price is lower, the room isn't all damp and clammy, the beds are better... and nobody stole...
Read moreMy wife and I were traveling through Pennsylvania from Maryland to Western New York. We were tired and found ourselves coming into Hazleton, PA on I-81. We saw on the highway sign that there was a Fairfield Inn & Suites at the exit and decided this was where we were going to rest.
We were welcomed by the desk clerk. I am a Marriot Rewards member and made that known. The clerk was very accommodating and very pleasant. The hotel is very clean. This hotel is apparently an award-winning property because across from the elevators was glass case full of awards, plaques, and trophies. The room was great, also very clean, warm (the temperature was dropping from the forties/Fahrenheit into the thirties as night fell) and for one night met our needs as tired travelers.
The breakfast bar was fantastic. It was comprehensive and can accommodate a variety of dietary needs. The lady that is in charge of it is fantastic and does a great job. If you walk away hungry it is your fault.
This hotel does have the Marriott curse, a bed that is too soft. If it wasn't for the bed being too soft it would be a perfect stay. I don't hold that against this hotel, that seems to be a corporate problem. I have traveled a lot and if you want a decent bed in a Marriott property than stay at a Residence Inn and if you want to sleep in a bag of marshmallows then stay in a Courtyard. The bed at this hotel is better than a bag of marshmallows, but you do sink when you settle into bed. Not sure if the mattress is really worn out or just low quality. There are some people that like a soft bed. My wife and I are not those people. if you like a soft bed than this hotel would be great for you. We are only staying the one night so as I said, I won't hold the bed against this hotel although that is the core of any hotel stay.
To be fair, because of the hotel, other than the horrific bed in our room, is a great place. I want to give praise to the bathroom. It had the best water pressure I have ever seen in a hotel ever. Great showers to be had.
Next door is a restaurant with a sports theme, Damon's. The food is great there and within walking distance from the hotel.
I would recommend this hotel, but if you cannot handle a soft bed don't stay here more than one night. If you like a soft bed then this is your hotel...
Read moreRead moreStayed multiple times 5 , decent rooms , mostly clean . Staff is not cordial , the evening staff. It almost feels like they are doing you a favor by answering a question or helping you out with something which should have been done or in place by default. The least that can be done when something is not working or bad is explaining to the guest or atleast just making them feel hear. In my case the AC was just blowing out dust , it was worse than a dorm room AC, the receptionist said she will check and get it cleaned the next day. When I return after work , it the same in-fact worse with dust near the bed and on the floor , you are literally breathing that. The response I get was , I passed the message but nothing happened. The second night I was looking for some spoons and plastic plate near the cafteria area, I saw other guests use those plates for food in the room. So I went for the same , could not find anything so literally opened the cabinet shelf right below, instantly I am met with a rude , snarky tone that "You should not touch that", I can understand if you just said "Can I help you " or "Do you need something" and just told me after that guests are not allowed this side or something like that, there was no board anywhere or anything so just touched the cabinet shelf, instead an accusatory tone of "You should not touch that ", like I was trying to steal something.....I then asked her I need a plate and she was like "If you can step away from there I will get it" . Like literally a cop asking you to step away , or move back or something in that tone. I am a coloured person and know how it is sometimes but never ever expected this from a Marriott hotel staff and for a room that I have paid and stayed in the past. I definitely would have asked if someone was in the reception , but nobody is there , most evenings its empty (8pm , not even late). I travel for business regularly to the area and will definitely reconsider staying here...
