The LocaL 805 — Restaurant in Summersville

I originally left a 1 star review and then changed it to a 5 star review because the owner took the time to reply to me and explain something I did not know.

We've traveled all over the US and quite a bit in WV. We're an older couple and are obviously well above the legal drinking age, and my wife rarely carries a physical ID because she has a digital copy on her phone.

The Local refused to serve her and we left, literally surprised this happened because it truly never has, and while irritated because of this I left a one star review.

Two days later the owner replied telling me they were following the law even though this has not happened anywhere else. I decided to change the review rating because the owner took the time to reply.

Just as an FYI, for the few other places that have asked for an ID, they did all accept the digital copy. I found this on a WV website, so it does not say anywhere that I could find that a digital ID is not valid:

4.2.5. Any other valid means of satisfactory proof with picture identification showing the individual to be at least 21 years of age. The failure to produce satisfactory proof of age upon demand entitles the licensee to refuse to sell alcoholic beverages to...

The chef made a fabulous steak hoagie. Memorable! The steak was chopped in coarse dice so it all didn’t come sliding out of the sandwich, seasoned very well, and juicy delicious. The mushrooms were sauteed till they were brown for that great umami taste. The onions were caramelized. The roll was crisply grilled with plenty of butter so every crumb was scrumptious. The cheese was melty and in perfect proportion. And the sauce was a spicy mayo, just enough moisture with some kick. I think this tops any cheese steak or steak hoagie I’ve ever had! Yum!

And the crowning touch was the side of fries (extra). Hot, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. Double fried perhaps! Not a soggy or overcooked fry in the bunch.

This place seemed like a nice place to visit on our family’s trip out of town; however, I was unexpectedly disappointed. When we arrived, there was one other group of people dining. We ordered 2 hotdog meals, 1 burger meal, mac n cheese, and a child’s grilled cheese. Other people came to dine in while we waiting on our food, and sadly, also received their food before our table. It took almost an hour for our order to come out. The food was subpar to expectations, and we got very few fries with our order. Other people left during their dining experience because they were not being waited on in an efficient manner. To top it all off, our bill was $30 over the anticipated prices listed on the menu.
