I am from out of town traveling for business so It was my first time ordering and eating at 9Ja Restaurant, so I had no clue what to do or how to order. The owner was so very kind to me and super patient with this first timer! She gave me the menu and asked if I needed assistance and helped me with my order. I ordered the Jollof Rice w/ Chicken and the Egusi Soup with Goat that came with Fufu. She asked how spicy I would like the Egusi soup, I said, ā€œI can handle spicy.ā€ She said, ā€œAre you sure!ā€ I began to question if I really could handle it. So when she finished the Egusi she brought it out for me to test the spice lever, which was such amazing customer service and I really appreciated that. I could handle it a little more spice so she took it back and added more. After all my items were complete she bag everything up and proceeded to explain to me how to correctly eat the Egusi Soup with the FuFu and I’m so grateful she did. The food was absolutely amazing, so very delicious and extremely flavorful. I will definitely be back to try even more delicious items from the menu!!

I order the goat, fish & goat okra Egusi. I gave 4 stars, bc of the texture of the meats. The goat wasn’t as tender, as I thought it would be. It was a bit rubbery. The fish was a bit tough. The okra tasted like they were cooked long enough. The flavors were great, and I loved the fufu. Even though there no salt added to the fufu, the flavor from the Egusi helps in that aspect. I was shocked by the prices. I’ve eaten at African restaurants before, and what I paid for those 3 dishes, I could’ve gotten 5-6 meals at others. I’m not sure if it priced that way, bc they don’t get much customers, or what. Also, I was expecting more Egusi than what I received for $28-$30. Example: previous African restaurants I’ve eaten at, I pay $17 for Egusi/Saka Saka with 2-3 large size fufu balls. This restaurant is definitely not located in the best area, for a restaurant. As far as parking and more business is concerned. Maybe they’ll rethink their prices. I love African food, but not will to pay almost the twice the money I usually do. . I do wish them the best!!!

I'm huge on food that feels like it was made in there native land. This cuisine is nothing short of amazing and it feels like a home cooked meal. The fried plantain is so deliciously sweet and crispy and the catfish is like a masterclass on fried fish! You can taste and appreciate the effort and love put into every bite. The Jollof rice is so comforting to the palate and gives you a sense of comfort. The Egusi has goat in it and you sop it up with the fufu. Currently they are only doing to-go orders, but it is worth it and you will savor every aspect of this food!

This is a long overdue review for the excellent service and food Sessyk's provided for a Catered Wedding.

My, then, fiancƩ and I had been trying to find reputable West African catering in the Savannah GA area for our culturally mixed wedding, but with no luck we expanded our search to the Charleston SC area and stumbled upon Sessyks. We reached out and started an inquiry about catering and received prompt responses and information. The whole process from there on out was an absolute breeze, even though we were coordinating virtually across different states. Kevin and Sessy were the epitome of professionals throughout the whole process, and they were also gracious enough to host us at a very warmly personalized in person tasting event for the entire family in Summerville to finalize the menu selections. What we appreciated the most was their patience in dealing with the parents and their "specific" requests for menu items and changes, even when some of those requests were being made very late towards the day of the event.

In addition, while the original agreement was only for a drop off service for the wedding (i.e. we would have our own separate servers), the team graciously offered to stay throughout the event to assist in making sure things went smoothly for no extra charge. It was honestly great having them at the wedding, as they were instrumental in making sure the bride and groom (myself and now wife) got a chance to eat some of the delicious food throughout the busy day.

The food itself was absolutely on point, as all our guests noted. From the basic staples like Jollof Rice, Beef Suya (my personal favorite) Puff-Puff and fried Plantains, to the more specialty dishes like pounded yam, egusi stew and Moi-moi, there wasn't a single dish that wasn't a hit with our guests, and, we knew this going into the event from our experience at the tasting. They even worked to ensure myself and my wife got a chance to enjoy the delicious food in our few moments of respite from all the reception reception activities (dances, visiting tables and thanking guests, photos etc.) including saving some delicious suya for me before it ran out.

For how great everything was, I'm embarrassed to only realize that we never submitted a review for such outstanding service, but it's better late than never. All in all, we can't say enough how much we appreciate the service, and we fully recommend SessyK's to anyone looking for quality Nigerian/ West African food and/or Catering in the SC/GA coastal region! 10/10, 5 stars...

My family are BIG FOODIES, and We tried Several African dishes from this restaurant... We ordered the following dishes (Egusi, Suya & Plantains, fried Fish & the Whole grilled fish, Jollof Rice, Seafood Okra, FuFu and a container of pepper sauce). It was delivered to us extremely hot... I had a 2 hour drive home in a thunderstorm.... Upon arriving home... You guest it.... Our food was still hot enough to eat... It was packaged šŸ“¦Perfectly... Great sealed containers (Hey, they are reusable too... My daughteris big on using her resources wisely)... and it was very neat. The experience was indeed a blessed experience for our family. The owners was very professional and had great patience (I didn't know how to say the dishes I wanted, nor did I know exactly what I wanted, ... It was our first time.... They helped me) So if you are big on customer service... you will Not be disappointed! I'm glad I randomly chose this place & Got to experience African Food...... The ONLY down fall to this was..... We was sooo hungry, my daughter forgot to make a review video, and The restaurant is too far from us.... šŸ˜†šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ we are 2 hrs plus.... away... and well out of delivery range. I GUESS WE WILL BE TRAVELING BACK TO GET SOME MORE, as well as try to experience other African Dishes we missed this go round.I hope each of you, reading these reviews would be blessed with the SAME awesome experience we had....

After some research I decided to try this amazing place out. I was visiting from out of town so I text them to see where they were located and how I could place an order. They promptly replied and sent directions. I ordered the Jollof rice with goat meat, egusi soup with chicken and one with beef, fufu came with both , fried plantains and 2 mango juices. Before arrival I received a text saying that my order was ready! Once my daughter and I arrived, we were greeted and welcomed by Mrs Sessy! She has an AMAZING Spirit and made us feel at home and told us to be seated although the restaurant was takeout only. She brought our food with some silverware and told us to try the food before leaving because she saw my baby girl’s excitement to try the food! When I tell you she exceeded my expectations!!! 10/10 highly recommend!!! I never leave reviews and am big on customer service and experience and she exceeded in all aspects. As a business owner myself, I am picky! lol. So please visit this hidden gem! I pray nothing but increase expansion and abundance over this place! Thank you Sessy for your amazing hospitality. We will definitely...
