The Willow Tree Grill — Restaurant in Summerville

Greetings, Dec 10 2020 My sister called and said: it’s going to be a beautiful day would you like to get out and go for a ride. I said : Sure! , so we called our other sister and told her to get ready we’ll pick you up in 30 mins. We loaded up and took off to Mentone Alabama . It was a Great day to be on the mountain . Admired the homes across the top . It was time to start back home to Rocky Face ,we had decided to eat a late lunch at a place my sister had eaten at in Summerville . She said was reeeaal gooood ! The Willow Tree Grill . Sister went in and got a menu. . We called in our order, In just a few minutes my sister and I went in to get the food . We don’t sit down in restaurants and are social distancing at this time due to me having cancer . I got the drinks and went to the car . I was going to pay for our lunch that day so I gave my sister my card . When she got to the car she told me the bill was covered the girl checking her out . Said : We got this . She had seen me come in to get the drinks . She ask about me , my sister told her that I’m her baby sister and that I have cancer and we were having a day out of the house . She told my sister they have a love one that has been told they have cancer that week . Said all that to say this ~The food was very delicious . Would love to have some more of your chicken liver right now . 🙂Your love and compassion touched my heart . You should stop in. This is a solid 3.75 stars but I will round up because I believe in supporting small businesses every chance you can.

We came here for lunch on a Friday around 2 pm and it was no wait and plenty of parking in the gravel lot behind the restaurant. It is a quintessential small business restaurant and my wife loved the look of it.

The staff was a great lady she took our drinks and gave us time to look over the menu. The mixed drinks were just ok - a fun idea but they didn’t come across as particularly great to either of us. Not complaining l, we did finish them.

The cheese fries needed to be left in the fryer for at least 1-2 more minutes and the cheese on top was not melted. This is a super easy fix so I hope it was just a rush out of the staff and not the norm.

I had the burger, it was cooked fairly well a little over medium than I would have liked but still a solid grill. The taste was delicious and I really enjoyed it. The fries I got for the side were much better quality and cooked crispy.

My wife got the chicken wings. They were absolutely covered with sauce that overpowered. I think it would have been better with a rub instead of a liquid sauce for the wings.

It is definitely worth a visit and you can tel It’s a great local spot to eat. I do think we would come back and I think it would be a lot more fun to order the baked potatoes which seemed to be something they are famous for. All of the locals in the bar seem to be...

Overall we had to give this a 3-star rating due to an almost 2 hours wait to get a table and food. When we finally got a table [ 1 hour and 30 mins into waiting, this was our first time visiting. We were addressed by the owner 1 time and offered a drink. There were very little places to sit that were out of the way so we kept getting pushed aside and away from the door.] We put in our orders as soon as we could. It took about a few more mins [30 more mins] to get the food. The fish was amazing, the hushpuppies were too dense and lacked flavor, but we overlooked it. The fried pickles were good, the fried mushrooms were all suck together in clumps of batter and hard to eat. The popcorn shrimp was good but by the time our daughter got her food she was not hungry. The burgers were okay, but the server did not ask how either of the party who ordered them wanted them cooked. They were a bit overdone. We finished eating, paid our bill and left. We hope to give it another go, next time by making a reservation ahead of time, to help with the wait and table availability. We want to say the server was very sweet but for as long as we waited, you think that something more than a drink before we got to the table would have been provided or a discount.
