First, I am from Jersey. I know what a good bakery should taste like. I wasnât far from New York City that I couldnât go in there and come back the same day so I know what pastries are in New York City as well. You havenât even got the least little bit of New York , you advertise a little bit of New York in Sun City. No way you havenât even got a crumb of New York City. I there presently live in Palm Valley in Goodyear & on occasions I get to Sun City for reasons other than to go to the bakery so I usually stopped there before I leave for home
I hopefully will get up to Sun City tomorrow morning Not to buy, but to show this bakery how disappointed we were when we got home the past two Sundays. The first Sunday we thought weâd give it a chance As a previous visit, left us disappointed. First Sunday we ordered apple turnovers. We were handed a bag but did not look in it and when we got home, there was one apple fritter NO turnovers. Paid for turnovers. My husband had heard the woman standing over on the end of the counter order an apple fritter, however we never thought that it would be in our bag, imagine her disappointment when she got home. Second Sunday no more chances will be taken. Sunday we ordered apple turnovers as the old owners did never disappointed. They were delicious Did an expert job on them. Previous ownersâ were delicious and to be looked forward to. Loaded with apples. I will try to transfer a picture from my camera to this review showing you the hollow turnovers. The first one I thought it was probably a bakers error. Not so. The second one didnât look any better than the first one. It had one slice a little thicker than the second slice of an apple with only two slices in the turnover. Rest was hollow with like a slight lining ..very slight..lining of apple âstuffâ. That was it. The other one literally had one regular slice of apple in it two half pieces of a skinny apple slice and a little bit of apple like Residue inside the hollow shell. Then to end it all the end of each turnover about 2 inches up, edible dough hard as a rock. After going there for years while attending Brunks Auction next door âŚWe were a regular customer every Sunday that we did go up there. We did not miss a time when either bringing home or sitting inside at the tables having coffee and a pastry of some sort. The pink paint all over the inside is hideous absolutely hideous âŚ.like the inside of a Barbie house. What were you folks thinking? About four little tables across from the bakery with a little coffee station wouldâve been nice, but we wouldnât be using it now anyway because we will not be back except to bring you these examples that are in my freezer, and if I get there tomorrow morning, youâll see them if not, itâll be the following Sunday or whenever. Seven bucks down the drain. I took pics of them & i donât have time right now. .so if I can, I will attach the pictures to...
Read moreI was really excited to try this bakery but it was a very sad experience. We stopped by at 5:30 am so we could get there right after they opened. Unfortunately, the operating hours were incorrect in Apple Maps so they were still closed when we arrived. No biggie, I submitted an edit to Apple Maps for change of hours while we waited for the bakery to open. I was a little nervous when we saw just one car in the parking lot. I would expect for there to be an entire staff of bakers to be there before opening but maybe they all came in one car, who knows?
The cases were all stocked full of cookies, cakes, pastries, donuts, and breads. I was a little suspicious that the cases were so full at open with nearly no staff inside. There was an alarm going off in the back and it never got turned off the entire time we were shopping. The lobby was in disarray. It looked like maybe they were moving furniture in or outâŚjust a pile in the corner. Old furniture was laying on the sidewalk outside the bakery as well.
We got an assortment of items to try. Chocolate cigar, Raspberry Cigar, Honey Bun, Chocolate glazed donut, Cherry and cheese pastry, and a couple things I donât know the name of. I didnât see the name tag for them. Unfortunately, we didnât enjoy any of the things we tried and threw the whole box away.
The pastries were dry and stale, the chocolate fillings were really hard and it was something we couldnât get through. The fillings inside all of the pastries were hard and ICE COLD. The pastries tasted as if they may have been frozen. The pastries werenât light, fluffy, and buttery as a pastry should be. The pastry was dry, stale, and slightly chewy. We didnât even taste some of the other pastries after trying a couple of the others. The textures were off. I did try to warm one up to see if it helped, but it was not good. The pastry just became more chewy and the filling was still cold and hard inside. It was just weird.
The best thing that we tried was the chocolate glazed donut. It was soft and not stale at all. The chocolate glaze was a little bit too sweet, but it was still okay. Typical glazed donut, nothing particularly special.
We also bought some buns to try. They are a little on the dry side right out of the bag. These might taste better warmed up. Not sure about that, but maybe.
We tried their cookiesâŚbutter cookies maybe? No label on them at all. They werenât terrible. Iâm not a fan of this kind of cookie anyway. They tasted the same as every other cookie like that that we have tried. Light crumb, lightly sweet, not super buttery.
We spent about $35 on the whole purchase. We would not recommend this bakery, unfortunately. We really had hope but are sorely...

I honestly wish I could give negative stars instead of a one star review.
I placed an order at New York West Pastry & Bake Shop for an 8-inch red velvet cake with white cream cheese frosting, no decorations, meant for my wedding on October 8th. I was explicit during my Saturday, October 5th phone order that the cake needed to be ready any time before noon and was assured there would be no issues.
Upon arriving at 10:45 am on the 8th, the cake wasnât ready. I was told it would be another 20 minutes. Due to my wedding preparations, I left, and my grandmother attempted to pick it up at 11:30 am, believing it would surely be ready. Shockingly, the cake was still not done.
At one point during this ordeal, I received a phone call from the bakery in which a gentleman informed me they were unsure who had ordered the cake and insisted that I must have ordered it incorrectly, claiming it was set for pickup after noon. This was entirely untrue, as I had multiple people with me when placing the order who can confirm I clearly requested a pickup before noon. It was incredibly frustrating to have my instructions questioned and misrepresented, especially when I had taken every step to ensure everything was communicated correctly for such an important event.
My grandmother returned an hour later at 12:30 pm, only to be informed the cake still wasnât ready. Astonishingly, the staff mentioned they had fired the baker and offered a refund, but we desperately needed the cake, not the refund, considering it was for a wedding. They assured us it would be ready in another 30 minutes.
Finally, at 1:30 pm, she picked up the cake, which was disappointingly a 6-inch instead of the 8-inch we ordered. The cake was poorly decorated, contrary to our request for no decorations, and tasted like mint toothpaste, resulting in it being largely untouched at the wedding.
When I called to convey my discontent, not only was I met with excuses, I was also told: "God bless you because Karma will get you, come get your refund." Additionally, I learned they stopped offering wedding cakes due to frequent customer dissatisfaction. Despite their refund refusal when we didnât accept it on Tuesday, they surprisingly requested my card info again if I wanted it refunded on the card, which I chose to avoid by opting for cash.
This debacle was exceedingly stressful for what was meant to be a joyous occasion. The lack of professionalism and poor service was shocking. We will never return to New York West Pastry & Bake Shop and caution others against...
