Upon arrival at 4:00pm on Saturday, we noticed the door was locked. We peeked in the window but even though they looked at us, no one got up to open the door. We entered through the Moon Winks Cafe door and asked if we could access the bar area. We were told by the cashier they were still setting up but go ahead. We walk into the bar and had to move empty boxes out of our way to walk into the restaurant and eventually to our table. There were 3 employees at the bar - 1 sitting and 2 sort of blocking the entrance to the kitchen. We said hello 3 times and no one responded. We sat at a nearby table but had to remove several dirty napkins from the table and a couple forks and remote control. After waiting 10-12 minutes, a blonde server comes to the table looking surprised even though she was one of the ones standing at the kitchen entrance. We knew our order when she offered drinks, but insisted on bringing the drinks first. We ordered, 10 min later the food comes out. The soup was luke warm at best. Asked for a warm up which she took back to the kitchen and stuck in the microwave - in the bowl & plate, just as it was served. I would have thought as a server she would know to put it in a container to reheat it. Not the case. The soup comes back now not much warmer but in a bowl super super hot. Geez ! The salad I split in half to take home not knowing it was so large. I took the top portion off in a carryout box to go home and ate the remaining at the table. The salad seemed to be gritty as I got to the bottom of the bowl. I don’t believe it had been washed. I drank 2 glasses of water to get rid of the gritty feel on my teeth and in my mouth. Our server never returned back to the table after the food was delivered to the table. It was an awful experience from start to finish. When it came time to pay the bill that was $44. & change, I gave a $50 bill and she said, so we’re all set then. I looked at her waiving the $50 in her hand saying, all set ! How tacky & unprofessional to ask. It was way more of a tip I was planning to leave given the horrible service. I will never go back here again. We were only in Ann Arbor for the afternoon and wanted to get a quick bite before the long drive home. As we were walking out, we walked right by our server who never said Thank you, Have a nice evening- Nothing ! Horrible service, broken down boxes on the floor, staff is unaware of their surroundings and don’t look up to see if patrons might be looking at them to get their attention. We also noticed- a (dark haired shorter gal) food server for another table was whipping her head/hair about and tossing it around WHILE delivering food to the table next to us. NO hat on or hair pulled back (she had a lot of hair...
Read moreFirst visit, maybe last. Bathroom visit first stop so I could sip in a yummy chai I located on their menu. Inside single bathroom knock on door, response one moment please, shortly after a loud sigh, upon exiting stands a woman with her arms crossed annoyed. Hi I said as I smiled and walked by, not right day for this other customer. Next to ordering of my chai as this is my first visit and I possibly could have got something else, the woman behind the cash was very quick to try to move me, people did start to form the line behind me, and I do get business and quickness although she wouldn't even give me more than a min without some panic look on her face, I ordered the chai, paid and moved out of the way. Well I'm standing waiting for my chai I start to think about that lady outside the restroom and hope that my smile helped her. Although I can't find her inside the restaurant, maybe she's still in the bathroom, then I start to think negative ... funny how she can give me a hard time and she's taking her sweet time. And there she comes, crossing my path with two dirty mugs in her hand heading right behind the counter to put on her apron to start working again. How rude, for an employee of the store to stand outside with attitude with arms crossed, with no smile on their face then gladly walk by and go right behind the counter like you're on their time. As for my chai, I had to ask for a refund because it was taking quite a long time as everyone can tell from all the time I had to sit and think. Of course as I ask for the refund the cashier now tells me that she's going to make it. Okay so she just poured the chai drink in the bottom, added milk, lid, straw.......NO mixing! I had to remove the lid and mix the drink myself before leaving which took more time on top of the already terribly extended time waiting for a 12 oz drink that comes from a...
Read moreI was not impressed by the high prices for mediocre pastries and mainly the service.
To me, there's nothing special about their $7 brownie other than it massive size. When you factor in location, it makes sense for such high prices, but the quality of their food is nothing special.
Let's talk about the service. We ordered just a regular drip coffee, nothing fancy. They have 3 self serve urns/carafes, similar to what you'd see in a hotel. The urns/carafes even have the amount gauge on the front. HOWEVER, I was told that they DO NOT work.
I take my empty cup, press down on the lever and soon it stops. I let them know they are our of coffee and they acted shocked. A girl left from behind the counter to retrieve the empty urn/carafe, opened it to check, as if they didn't believe me. She then said it would take a few minutes. A few minutes turned into 10-15 minutes. (Enough time for everyone who was in line, and some just entering, to complete their order and even receive their completed order well before we had our coffee.) In fact, once the line was clear, I walked up to the counter and asked about the coffee. A different girl said she could fill it up.
I saw that another carafe was, by the gauge, empty and let the guy know. The girl who took the other carafe checked it and brought it back. She said that the gauge was broken and it still had coffee it in.
I heard great things about this little cafe, but after my experience, I'll avoid it because coffee shops are a dime a dozen and this one did not impress.
They serve Hyperion beans, which makes pretty good coffee. My next adventure will be heading to the Hyperion shop. Hopefully that will be a better experience.
Moonwinks, if you are going for a vibe that shouts and screams, "arrogant, pretentious, and pompous" then congratulations, your staff is well on their way to...
