I went to Swampscott with my sister for her birthday weekend. We chose this location for it's proximity to Salem (our intended destination). What we didn't expect was to fall in love with the hidden gem that is Swampscott, MA! The town and its inhabitants (some of the most genuinely wonderful people) were so welcoming! Specifically speaking; Teresa, co-owner of Cafe Avellino on Humphrey Street. It is located by the beach. They have the BEST avocado toast I've ever had! (That's what initially drew us in.) Teresa was well represented by her server (sorry I don't remember her name but she deserves recognition) on my 1st visit. (Yes, we went twice...the avocado toast made me a loyal fan.) As if my sister and I weren't sold enough the 1st time, we returned yesterday before heading home from our magical visit. This time, we met co-owner Teresa.
What can I say about Teresa and her fantastic cafe that will do appropriate justice to the experience that she provided for us? NOT MUCH, but I'll try anyway. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was different (in a good way). I asked my sister if she wanted the same as we had before and Teresa quickly noticed that we were repeat customers. The conversation quickly evolved from friendly small talk to exchanging contact info and taking commemorative selfies to remember our cosmic connection. The passion with which she runs her unassuming business is not only heartwarming, but also inspirational. I not only had a great breakfast, I instantly had a new lifelong friend that I feel I have known forever. I am grateful to the universe for aligning our paths and look forward to returning to Cafe Avellino for more good eats and more food for the soul.
Prego Teresa...te agradézco...
Read moreI cannot say enough about this incredible restaurant. My group of six went there for breakfast one day while we were on vacation and really enjoyed the food and the conversation with Teresa. When I said I was gluten-free and had problems finding good gluten-free pasta in the US, she told us to come back for dinner and call ahead and she would make me gluten-free pasta.
We went back (she set aside a table for us and made the gluten-free pasta just like she said she would) and had the most amazing dinner experience. Teresa is so kind and accommodating and fun and wonderful, and her staff is also lovely and dedicated to good service. She treated us to a wonderful multi-course dinner experience, all curated by her -- we were told not to look at the menu, and she was completely spot on with everything she made for us. Everything she brought out was incredible, and I got to enjoy some of the best gluten-free pasta and bread I've had.
We stayed for hours and had the most beautiful night. We really felt at home there, and we often talk about how much we want to travel back to Swampscott specifically to come back to this restaurant! I truly hope we get to visit again someday.
If you're in Swampscott - or honestly anywhere near it, from Boston to Salem - I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant. It's such a special experience and you will...
