Zeppe's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard - Syracuse — Restaurant in Syracuse

One of my favorite places for custard. Their blended gelata is my favorite, especially when in the car because I don’t have to balance the custard and the shaved ice and each bite myself. The only downside, which I’m sure is with a lot of places that have rotating flavors, is that the current menu items are only posted on the window if you are ordering on foot in person. They don’t update their website daily to reflect the flavors and they’re almost impossible to find online unless someone has happened to post a photo review recently. This has caused me several times to stop by for a gelata flavor that is no longer available, even as soon as a day after it has been posted online. One thing I do like about Zeppe’s as opposed to other custard/gelata places is the fact that they have the option of getting dole whip instead of custard and that you can order large tubs of both shaved ice and custard/whip. One of my favorite combinations that I found by chance was a pineapple dole whip plus cotton candy shaved ice. Their vanilla custard is also sweeter than other types of custard that I have gotten from other restaurants so sometimes it is easy to overdo it when you combine the vanilla with a flavor like tigers, blood or blue lagoon. I decided to take my family tonight here and am very unsatisfied, my girls kept asking me for ice cream all day, so I took them to the Layton zeppes, I’ve never been here before, and it seems pretty new, but everything was a mess, our orders, the tables, the chairs, it was just disgusting and my daughter had gotten her hair stuck to the sticky chair unfortunately. I took care of it but we went home and had to wash her hair out more due to her natural curly hair. They didn’t give us napkins, and looks to me everything in the back was half fast back there. Maybe there short handed maybe not, but I am highly disappointed with the way the inside looked, the floor was messy as well, it had dried up ice on it and ice cream it looks. I feel like McDonald’s does a better job with cleaning thing this place, and that’s saying something. I also noticed it’s all teenagers that are working, but not even one adult to supervise? What business has teen work without one adult? Just saying. As long as this looks this way, I don’t want to sit...

So slow it took 20 minuets to get a pretzel. We saw the pretzel sitting on the counter waiting for the nacho cheese, by the time we got it was cold, we saw them scoop the Nacho sauce right out of the can straight into our cup and it was also cold clearly was not cooked properly or even at all. There was like 10 workers in there, many of which were just standing around. And to top it off I got a blue lagoon ice (coconut and blue raspberry) which I have had at other ice place and absolutely loved, however here it tasted like soap. I took a few bites and threw it away, my three year old wouldn’t even eat it she said it taste too nasty. The other flavors we got were okay, but nothing to come back over.
