Pearl Express was a pleasant experience. The staff, though small, was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located in a small business strip plaza which has just a few other businesses and is on the corner of 6200 South at Bangerter Highway. The parking lot, which is not large, is best entered if you are East of Bangerter headed West. The restaurant is on the North side of 6200 South. The restaurant is narrow with seating down the sides and a long table down the center. It was not busy when we first arrived around 1730; but, more people showed up as time went on. There seemed to be as much or more business produced by carry-out as there was dining in. As I said previously the staffing was minimal but they did very well at their juggling act between taking phone orders, welcoming people as they came in to be seated, taking orders in the restaurant, ringing up pick up orders and dine in orders, bringing out food to the tables, topping off water glasses and all the other things associated with operating a restaurant. It seemed as though it may be a Family Business. They were all very nice and very busy. The food was hot, fresh off the stove, and very tasty. We tried the Walnut Shrimp, Pineapple Chicken, Peking Pork Chops, Egg Rolls and Cream Cheese Wontons. Everything was prepared very nicely. The pork and Chicken were excellent in their prep. Unlike many places that kill the flavor of the meat with over breading, Pearl Express fixed the dishes fresh without breading the meat. The Shrimp were battered just right for a crisp, flakey coating which went excellently with the sauce. Although the pineapple chicken was very good I think when I go again it would be the dish I would change out to try another dish. There are many to choose from. The Egg Roll was very good although in size it reminded me more of a Spring Roll. The Egg Rolls are served with a nice mild sauce that was almost like a sweet/hot mustard. The Cream Cheese Wontons were wonderful. Crisp, Fresh and Flakey served with a side bowl for dipping of Sweet and Sour Sauce. I would definitely recommend Pearl Express for small groups or small families. It is about average in cost for dishes served A la carte compared to other Chinese food restaurants. There are less expensive selections if you prefer a predetermined dinner selection with a choice of entrees. With the friendliness of the staff, tastiness of the food and the fast prep and serving of the food I don't think you could go wrong in...
Read moreYuck! You get what you pay for I guess. Not only did door dash delivery man steal our first order and we had to wait another 1.5 hours for delivery, the food was not great at all. The spicy food was anything but and worst of all the Foo Yong has ZERO flavor. It literally was just brother thickened and peas added to over fried egg fo yong. Completely gross texture and sauce. The sauce is supposed to be the most flavorful part of that dish. All the meats were over cooked. Really, nothing had flavor. It's like it was all slopped together. Only thing that tasted decent was the potstickers and that's because of the sauce they probably don't make themselves. Our order had the following with numbers for rating out of five(being amazing). Chicken egg fo yong- 0 stars Chicken low mein - 1 star Kung pow chicken - 1 star( no spice, over cooked chicken) Peking pork- 2 star (the breading was done right) Orange chicken - 1 star (over cooked and barely any flavor or sauce) Beef strip thing on the chef recommendation that says it is fit for a king - 0 stars( ordered medium rare and came well done, dry and not sure what flavor it was supposed to have, but again just tasted like broth) Rice sides- 2 stars (over cooked and tasted like instant rice, authentic is usually jasmine) Potstickers - 3 stars, dipping sauce was the only good thing, edges where super crisp and texture felt over cooked Beef and broccoli 1 star, again over cooked broccoli was slimy and no flavor Egg drop soup- 0 stars just yuck Even their fortune cookies tasted stale
I do not recommend. J only went here because my place is closed on Sundays. Looking for good authentic flavorful but not expensive food?? Gonto Yan Express in West Jordan. They know what they are doing. Egg fo yong on point there. Texture and flavor. Plus they are amazing to work with. My whole experience with Pearl Express was horrible. Bought a lot of it too to have left overs as we just moved into a new house and it would be easier to just reheat left overs. Nope. Going...
