The service was great, very kind people, seems like a good work environment. Possibly family run.
Positive points on food - the white rice was among the best I've had.
Negative points on food - on the food alone I give 2 stars. The orange chicken was some of the worst we've had of any style. If I took a big spoonful of orange kool-aid mix and put it in a half a cup of cocanut oil, then took a giant spoon full of MSG and put it in the sauce, it would have a similar flavor. In the sauce I first tasted the overwhelming orange flavor, very artificial tasting almost like they use pure citric acid. Very strong. And very orange. Food coloring orange. And the umami contrast created kind of a love hate relationship for the first half of the meal. The second half, I wasn't loving it anymore. It wasn't cute, my taste buds were telling me to stop eating the orange sauce. I was detecting too much of a strong chemically almost effervescent level of umami flavor. The sauce took your my breath away. Except for the rice, both my partner and I negatively received the orange chicken sauce. We may be in the minority with that experience, I see they have very good reviews.
But the bigger reason I'm writing this review is because about an hour after eating the food I began to have a headache, and 3 hours later I was getting a super strong dizzy spell when I change positions. I slept maybe 5 hours and woke up feeling queasy, and when I sit up everything spins for about 2 minutes. My back hurts across the middle of my ribs, and my neck is feeling tight and jaw and ear feel like someone punched my jaw. Which is where I'm laying right now feeling extremely sick. There is said to be an unexplainable syndrome, a post-consumption illness related to MSG. It's currently about 10 hours after eating the food. I will update this if something changes, but the food or an ingredient in the food seems to have made me pretty sick. I don't know why. But when I pair these symptoms with the intense level of umami flavoring in the orange sauce, I can't help but suspect MSG made me sick. The flavor of the sauce was super powerful and I can't describe the flavor, which is how umami is usually described. The flavor is kind of like a dream that you try to remember but it's gone. The peanut sauce also had a strong umami flavor, so possibly more msg but I'm unsure.
Normally if I'm sick after eating something, im gonna have a pretty negative feeling towards the place I ate the food from. In this situation, the only reason I'm not leaving 1 or 2 stars as a rating is because the place is clearly popular. And 2 of the 3 staff we interacted with were so very kind and accommodating. The one older waitress, was such a joyous and attentive person.
So, maybe it was just how I reacted to the ingredients they use. But on account of the taste of my food and my sickness, I'm starting to wonder if it's yet another restaurant using MSG as sort of a food flavor wonder-drug and people aren't realizing that it could be why the food is so flavorful. They may just be loading up the msg in everything they use. It hasn't been formally found to be dangerous, but there is a reason you see on packages and restaurants boasting the "no msg" claim. There's enough anecdotal reports around to cause hesitation.
Maybe I'm not correct, maybe this restaurant doesn't use msg at all. But when I Google symptoms of msg over-consumption, I've got half of them. So, take this for what it's worth. If you've ever gotten sick from msg, you may want to look elsewhere. I feel so...
Read moreWe just ate here today and might I say that the previous owners are truly missed. The previous owners (the mom, the son, the staff) treated people with kindness, respect and like family, especially if you're a regular like we are. However, the waitress today who claimed to be the owner is extremely rude, has no patience, walks away before you're done talking to her, and will speak in another language other than English to her coworker which is insulting and disrespectful in which, I told her that is very rude. She wouldn't tell me her name before she told me that she was the owner, yet the other girl who was the nicer one went to tell a male in the kitchen that I wanted to talk to the manager and the rude waitress came over and said she was the manager. I told my husband that we will no longer eat here anymore. I hope we cross paths with the previous owners again (the son moved to Las Vegas). The previous owners (the son) told us that the new owners are his cousins, but I don't know if this waitress claiming to be the owner, is his cousin because she seemed confused when I mentioned that son. The waitress also mentioned that the manager wasn't there and that she was the owner, but I have not seen this girl until today. This place is really a gem, but I don't like this waitress. Her customer service ruined it for me. Should you try it out, I hope you have a better experience and the food is really good! The waitress spoke in a foreign language because she thought it was about me having to pay extra money for the curry puff and egg roll sauces that I declined to purchase when we just spent $136 there. Plus she added an 18% gratuity to our party of 5 which has never happened to us before. I told my husband when there's new management there's new rules. She tried to defend herself for why she walked away from us 2 times, but I didn't care to hear...
Read moreMy experience with the food was incredibly disappointing, especially given my anticipation for the bold and vibrant flavors that Thai cuisine is renowned for. It seems that this dish fell woefully short of those expectations, lacking the aromatic spices and complex flavor profiles that characterize authentic Thai food. Instead of enjoying a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy, I found the flavors dull and uninspired, leaving my palate longing for the rich and zesty nuances typical of traditional Thai dishes.
To make matters worse, the meat was dry and bitter, with a texture that was off-putting rather than tender and succulent. The crackling consistency suggested overcooking or improper preparation, which severely detracted from my overall dining experience. I was perplexed by the high rating restaurant has received, as it seems more suited for those with a palate that prefers milder, less adventurous flavors, rather than the robust and exciting tastes that true Thai cuisine delivers.
Overall, for anyone who values authenticity and depth in their culinary experiences, this restaurant would likely be viewed as unsatisfactory and unappetizing. The absence of vibrant flavors not only diminished my enjoyment of the meal but also highlighted a disconnection from what makes Thai food so celebrated around the world. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend this particular restaurant to anyone seeking genuine, flavorful...
