Jody’s used to be a family favorite till our visit today. We walked in at 5:30 and it took about 15 minutes till drinks were ordered. Once we got our drinks our waitress didn’t check on us again. We get it you’re busy with business, but we are also part of the paying business. We ordered 4 burgers and a salad. When our food got to us an HOUR later my father told the waitress he wasn’t impressed with service and that it had gone down since their remodel. My husband had a half salad that still hadn’t even been brought to the table. The waitress was very friendly to my dad and apologetic and then walked away. I am assuming she told the owner who then came over to our table to so if we needed anything. My dad started by telling her that he understands it’s Saturday and it’s busy, but if they cannot keep up with the amount of customers maybe they should hire more help. The owner then began to put her finger in my father’s face waving it and tell him, “not to go there. Do not go there.” I was honestly dumbfounded. I stood up and told her not to put her finger in his face and she threatened to call the cops? When my mom went to pay for the food the owner kept saying, “he shouldn’t have said that.” Talking about my dad. When my mom asked her what my dad said she couldn’t even remember or repeat it back. They tried to give us our food for free to remedy the situation, I guess. My mom told her we don’t take handouts and left the money on the table. The owners daughter did try and give us our money back as we were walking out the door and we told them again, keep the money. We truly weren’t there to cause problems, but if you don’t want honesty from your customers DON’T ASK. And for the owner to be so bold to wave her finger in a customers face in front of so many other people is shocking. He was telling her a simple truth. People should not have to wait an hour after ordering for their food. Not to mention we had a child with us, and when we arrived there was no wait for seating. We will never be back to this place again which is a shame cause I’ve eaten at Jody’s for as long as I can remember. Daytripper should’ve done a piece on Wes’s Burgers...
Read moreI saw the great reviews of Old Jody’s Restaurant in Temple and knew that we had to try it. We were in the area on a Thursday and stopped for lunch around 12:30 pm. I liked the vibe when we pulled up and walked inside. Nothing fancy, but it has the feeling of being a well-established restaurant that is a great place to get together with family and friends to have a meal together. It was busy when we got there, but there were tables available. It’s a seat-yourself type of place. Some tables are longer and can be shared with other small groups and there are a few smaller individual tables for up to 4 people. This place only accepts cash or checks, but there is an ATM at the front door.
Bottom line up front, Jody’s was a mixed bag for us. We got fried mushrooms as an appetizer, and it was a generous portion. The mushrooms were lightly breaded and tasted great with the ranch dressing. The server brought us a plastic squeeze bottle of ranch dressing, as well as one of thousand island dressing for the salad my wife got with her meal. I got a double meat cheeseburger. It doesn’t come with a side, but it was a big burger and reasonably priced. This was a great cheeseburger, and I would get it again. So far, so good…. try the fried mushrooms and get the burger! My wife got the chicken fried steak with a side of French fries for us to share. I liked the fries more than my wife, but overall good fries and enough for both of us to share. Unfortunately, the chicken fried steak was disappointing. You can judge for yourself from the photos. It was under seasoned with little to no breading in places. From other reviews and photos, I don’t think this is normal, so I’m not sure what happened with our order. After seasoning with salt and pepper, my wife ate some of it and it was okay, but she wouldn’t get it again.
Overall, I would recommend that you give Old Jody’s a try for yourself. We will go back again but probably won’t get the chicken fried steak. The menu has a lot of interesting options, like frog legs, fried gator, and catfish. The super friendly servers and hometown vibe with good food options are reasons...
Read moreWe went to eat after mass tonight, and have been there many times before. However, this was the rudest service we have ever received. One item at our table was not the complete order, so the waitress stated they world make the rest of the order. This was after the 2 plates came several minutes apart. Once everyone was done, she stopped and asked if we were still waiting on the piece of chicken. We told her yes, but now it really didn't matter because everyone was done eating. She said that she is not in control of our order not being complete. We think that was a rude statement since she works for Jody's. I explained that honestly I think we shouldn't be responsible for that plate because they didn't ever complete our order, nor check on it. The restaurant was only half full while we were there. She changed that plate from a large to regular since they messed it up. When we went to pay, the wait staff and dishwasher were negatively talking about us. The cashier was snarky and stated that our waitress was their best. I told them that I work in the food service industry, and that you should never tell your customer that you are "not in control" of their order. I stated that as a customer that comes across as very rude and that our business isn't important to you. They proceeded to tell me that they know how to run their kitchen, our order being incomplete was not under their control, that they don't do things like I do, and then that I don't know what I'm talking about because they know what they are doing. The food is good, but polite customer service is severely lacking. The incomplete order would not have been a big deal if they were polite to us. As well as staying on top of our order and completed it quickly, not when everyone was finished. Thanks for the years of good food and service Old Jody's, but I think we will start...
