My friends and I went to this little gem today. It is a cabin with old timey decor which I love. Shirley was our waitress and she's so sweet. Her husband Howard brought out a complimentary dish of hush puppies. They were very good. I ordered a veggie plate. I got green beans, fried okra, fried squash, and macaroni and cheese. Let me start with the good. The squash and okra were delicious. They were cooked perfectly and not greasy at all. I'm not going to lie when I saw the Mac n cheese I thought it was just going to be mediocre because it looks like boxed m&c. However upon tasting it I was pleasantly surprised to see it was made with a delightful flavorful cheese sauce. It was so good! My only complaint was the green beans. I wish they had a little more flavor they were very bland. I saw that they have homemade desserts and I almost decided against it. At the last minute I changed my mind and ordered the homemade chocolate pie and I am SO glad I did! It was absolutely delicious. It is very rich almost has a chocolate pudding vibe to it. It's topped with whipped cream, and has a chocolate crust. It is absolutely scrumptious! You can tell that it's made with love. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. If you like fish my friends said the fish was delicious. I also tried a bite of the coleslaw and it was really good! I was also VERY pleasantly surprised to see this picture of Elvis hanging...
Read moreThe food was plentiful and very tasty. I'm not a seafood or catfish lover, by ANY means - I avoid it, generally, but i knew the wife loves catfish and wanted to try some local flavor instead of generic chain restaurant food.
The place is a quaint little spot just a couple minutes off exit 322 from I-40.
We were early customers and sat down near the windows and the waitress came out and suggested we move to a slightly larger table... Which i thought was odd until she bought out a couple of cold slaws, some hush puppies, and a little iron pot of beans before we even started.
Yep, we needed the space. And I'll say this, I'm also not a big beans eater either - i grew up in the Pacific, lol - but those beans were GOOD.
In any case, we ordered...
My wife is pretty picky about her catfish, but she said the catfish was DELICIOUS.
I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. I know, a safe bet, but the burger was a good size and better than average. The home sliced fries were above average as well...
Now, in my ignorance, i ordered the super stuffed baked potato - thought it was going to be nothing much...
The thing was huge... MASSIVE... A meal in and of itself, loaded with cheese and actual pulled pork bbq... (That bbq was great flavored and deserves it's own spot on their menu).
Service was friendly and honest and very nice.
Prices were modest.
Also, bathrooms were nice...
Read moreWe must've caught them on a bad day, because our experience was the complete opposite of the other reviews I'm seeing. I would give no stars if possible. Our drinks came, the lemonade was terrible and watered down... the starters came - fried mushrooms, Cole slaw, and the bean pot. The bean pot was barely warm and not even close to a generous portion. The cold slaw tasted as if the cabbage had started to go bad, and we couldn't taste the mushrooms through the breading and grease... asked for ranch, didn't bring it... The salt and pepper shakers were caked with something... since we couldn't stomach eating any of the started, we asked to cancel our order, and the Waitress (who looks very young, maybe the owners daughter?) had to go back and ask someone in the kitchen, who said we would still have to pay for the food... when I explained the above issues to her, she went back to the kitchen again, and apparently the decision makers said we didn't have to pay.
I felt really bad for our waitress, if nothing else, whoever was running the place should have come out and talked to us. This was the worst food and restaurant experience either my partner or I...
