Stopped in for lunch on our way to Houston. Saw the sign on the side of the road so decided to try it. It is a quaint little place that looks to be an old house turned into a restaurant. We were seated within 5 minutes of walking in the door right around noon. They had a special for Fried Green Tomatoes so of course we had to try them. This was my first time tasting them so I have nothing to compare it against. They were OK. Just didn’t know what to expect. I told our waitress that it was our first time visiting and asked her what she thought was good. She recommended the chicken and avacado tacos - which is what I ordered. I thought they might have more flavor with some sort of sauce or ranch added in. My husband ordered a bacon burger. He said at least three separate times how good the burger was - he never says that! So I’m guessing it was pretty tasty! We looked at the pies and almost got a piece to go but decided against it. They have many flavors to choose from, some I have never heard of before. Every other table around us ordered a piece of pie to go so they must...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for over 20 yrs and very sad to say, this was my last visit! The Chicken Fried Chicken that I used to RAVE about, has now become a chicken breast pounded flat and then cut in half! It is then fried in 2 inches of batter and served to you in all its batter glory until you realize that you’re in a 80’s commercial asking “where’s the chicken?” I know COVID was hard..but dang it! Don’t cut your portions in half and charge me more to make up for it! I’m so upset over the atrocity of this last visit that it would not upset me to see this place go out of business all together! I said what I said! Bring back the chicken Fried chicken with a solid full chicken breast with batter and we’ll talk! Also, my husband got the brisket sandwich and he said it was not good and he was very disappointed! This place, like so many other small business restaurants have gone way down hill and I’m so sad and angry...
Read moreAll I can say is WOW! I'm from Houston. My sister and I went on the Bluebell Creamery tour in Brenham and afterwards decided to try out a country restaurant. We decided to try Bevers and it was a great dining experience! The restaurant is in a charming Victorian house. When you walk in you feel an immediate welcoming ambiance. I had the seafood platter and my sister had the fried shrimp. It was delicious! Fried just right and juicy and tender. The shrimp were nice and big and the catfish tasted fresh! The cornmeal coating was wonderful. The salad bar was so nice and I think the tomatoes were home grown. Really! The coleslaw was a vinegar base (not cream) and it was very very tasty! The food was very reasonably priced, our food server was so friendly and attentive and I enjoyed each and every bite! We would have tried the pie but we were too full! I wish this place were closer to Houston! I'd be a...
