The menu says "Noche at Nanas" so not sure if these are the "night" prices. There are positives and negatives so this review is based on my dinning experiances at this restaurant.
Positives: food is flavorful nice staff and very polite staff is dressed neatly and themed to restaurant so it really adds to the experiance of eating there Waiter wiped table with rag when we sat. The establishment outside was clean where patrons were seated. Tables looked to be cleaned quickly as customers were leaving. Nice place to hang out with family or friends. Very colorful and lively feels family oriented and not like a bar. The added security outside was a plus. I did see a bar for those patrons that like to enjoy some spirits as they enjoy the music. Not sure of what they offer but the bar looked stocked. cute shop on premise ( earrings, necklaces, mexican products, etc) live entertainment on a platform/stage security..maybe city police on premise which I did like very much especially since it has some unlit areas outside. in the past I have sat inside and it was also clean, cool, and staff was attentive.
Negatives: PRICES HAVE GONE UP!! Went there last night so this is the picture of current menu prices for "Noche at Nanas". Five tacos are now $14 bucks!! So if you have a family of five for example and they all get tacos expect to pay $70 ( 14 X 5) or up. See picture of menu to read prices and description of food.
As if the prices werent high enough at the bottom of the menu it says that there is a 15% automatic gratuity on parties of four plus people OR if your tab exceeds $120. In addition, there is also a credit card transaction fee. See picture of menu for this portion for their wording on fees.
It was crazy packed. We were seated but they were so busy the wait staff never came back so we decided to leave and go elsewhere before we ever ordered anything.
Not enough parking!! Small parking lot saw people park vehicles on the street which is not lit and cross the street. Parking across the street or on the side of the road is up to customer but it doesnt seem safe.
Seems like portion sizes have gotten smaller and the price is way bigger. Below are zoomed in pics from a few months ago of an order of 5 lonches I got for dinner. Very little meat was in there and by comparison to other taquerias lonches these were way smaller.
We were seated outside and man were the mosquitos were out!! I felt like dinner!!
All in all if you go and eat at Nanas the food is good and it is very nice there. BUT if you dont agree with prices you can do as we did and simply go elsewhere. The added fees, mark ups on food, and reasons listed above was a no for all of us last night. Not sure if there is a day menu now because this one said "Noche at Nanas". As a customer you can compare your price points, portion sizes, etc and make your dinning...
Read moreWe visited Nana’s Taqueria yesterday with some out-of-town guests who were eager to experience authentic Mexican food and culture during their trip to the Rio Grande Valley. As a local and small business owner myself, I love supporting fellow small businesses and was excited to share this place with them.
First, I want to say how beautiful the restaurant is. The building and parking area are well-maintained, and the vibrant gift shop at the entrance is full of charm. It was a fun way to set the tone for what we hoped would be a memorable dining experience. The gift selection is lovely and thoughtfully curated to celebrate our Mexican culture, something I truly appreciated.
Unfortunately, the service we received during our visit left us disappointed. The woman working in the gift shop didn’t greet us or seem interested in answering a couple of simple questions we had about the merchandise or the nearby border town we were discussing. It felt like we were bothering her, which was disheartening, especially when trying to give guests a warm welcome to our region.
Once inside the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess and seated right away, a great start. However, our waiter seemed disengaged from the beginning. When I greeted him and asked how he was doing, he didn’t acknowledge it and simply asked, “What can I get you to drink?” While I understand not everyone is into small talk, there was a noticeable lack of warmth and attentiveness. As we asked questions about the menu, he gave very brief responses while looking around the restaurant, rarely making eye contact. It felt like he was distracted and uninterested in helping us feel welcome or comfortable.
That said, the food was delicious, fresh, and served quickly, a definite highlight of our visit. But even after leaving a generous tip and personally thanking our server on the way out, he still didn’t acknowledge me or return the gesture. My guests even commented more than once on how odd and unwelcoming the service had felt.
I hesitated to write this review because I know how hard small business owners work, and I understand how damaging negative feedback can be. But I also believe that constructive feedback can help businesses grow. Nana’s is a beautiful place with great food and huge potential for an even better experience, but I hope management takes time to reflect on how customer service is just as important as the meal. First impressions matter, especially when your guests are excited to share a cultural gem with visitors.
With just a little more attention to hospitality, this could be a truly standout...
Read moreWe’ve been here before but it had been a while, about 9 months, so we expected some price changes and differences. Upon arriving we noted it was cold inside(we came during the tail end of the January 24 winter snap outside temp is 50°) FOOD: First things first the prices didn’t shock us too much except for the beverage prices which have gone up significantly. We ordered two sets of lonches, a papa, a kids meal, and two Mexican cokes. Now the food was ok while it was warm, only complaint when it came to food was that apparently now it’s either chips and salsa or beans. This is a bit ridiculous as we were not informed of this, and if we would’ve known we would’ve ordered beans instead of one TINY chips and salsa for two adults and a child. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Customer service was extreme lacking while we were there all of the tables around us had plenty of people looking around waiting for the waitress to come back. Which I believe they were all in the other room where it was warmer. ATMOSPHERE: This brings me to my biggest complaint out everything, IT WAS FREEZING INSIDE. There is obviously no working heat on our side, seeing as how the thermostat wires were exposed, from where a thermostat had been obviously removed. When we asked a waitress from another table if they could pick up the heater she was like sorry the other room is warm. We just looked at her with questionable expressions as I reiterated well, “can’t y'all put a heater on this side or something.” She just walked away. We ended up eating as quickly as we could and all of our food was cold within mins of it arriving, which did not make for enjoyable food. My husband had to get up several times to get a to go plate, the check, and drink lids from our server because she would never come by. We could not take it anymore eating while freezing, and were worried for our daughter so we took the rest of her meal to go because it was freezing inside. I made a comment to the ladies at the register and they didn’t even seem to care. They just said, “sorry”. I believe a manager/ owner was there and it seemed like she was going to say something but nope just ignored us.
All in all we don’t think we will be back unless it is for someone’s event that is taking place there. It seems that like since they are expanding / building an extension, that they are making up for the added costs, by charging the customers more, and cutting conners here and there, i.e., the beans/chips, the drink prices, the increase in prices and decrease in meat. Overall, the adorable mom and pop vibe is gone, and it is not what used to make it great/popular...
