Just to go for a drive down some old country roads I noticed the old lights in the darkness. BBQ written in larger than life letters, I pulled in. Through the door of the smoky atmosphere, old payphone on the wall and some good ole boys celebrating a round of pool, letting off steam. I ordered a cold brew and stepped out back too the BBQ trailer by the off season stage. Sound of silence. No band tonight. Chairs tipped up to the patio tables. The Moon bright in the sky. You can almost hear some old Hank tunes playing maybe even some Patsy Cline true too its time. A place where Johnny or Merel, George and Tammy would have cut their teeth in the early days. This is country and has been since before Country was Barbera mandrel cool. Next time your cruising past the Cement plant look over to those soulfull lights calling out. Stop on in and sit a while. Read moreRiley’s is the first Tavern open after prohibition in the state of Texas. This is a combination of a hole in the wall and an amazing place for live music, along with the fabulous staff who always take care of their patrons. There is a huge outside section with a stage in addition to a small stage inside. They do allow smoking inside, and works great if you’re playing pool. It is great if you need to get out of the 100° weather.
Our band “Island Texas” plays here once a year for the Luau that’s been going on forever. An annual event you shouldn’t miss.
There’s also Airbnb accommodations on the property itself so you don’t even have to go far. Keep in mind there is a train that goes through here. It’s great when the band is playing blues and...
