We love little hole in the wall, mom and pop type restaurants. This is a family run business. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but boy, let me tell you, they are so so busy! You can tell the local neighborhoods are there often. It was our first time and we were just trying to find a place that was open since Hurricane Beryl knocked our city out. We decided to try this place because he had both seen it in passing multiple times while driving in the area and both had made mental notes to ourselves that we wanted to check it out. We are so glad we did! The food was amazing! The price on the tacos seems a bit much, but they definitely give you your money's worth. The queso was very good, they have infused Margaritas that are to die for delicious! My husband is very picky. He ordered some flautas not knowing they would be topped in cream and queso fresco which he hates both of those things. They also have a large variety of birria foods and they served his flautas with birria. He actually gave it a try, crema, birria and all and he loved it! I tried a Mulita which is basically a mini quesadilla and it was also very yummy. I ordered the Mango infused Margarita with a chamoy rim and my husband got a mixed berry margarita with regular salt rim. They were amazing and went down so easy. Very dangerous. LoL. They also give you an array of salsas to choose from when they deliver the chips to your table and they are careful to point out which one is the Habanero so you don't accidentally burn your mouth. đ¤ For being one of the only places open after a Hurricane and being as busy as they were with walk ins AND pick up orders, the service was still pretty great! We did have to wait a bit for someone to come around when it got towards bill time, but all the ladies worked together to serve everyone in the restaurant so they have a great team and that was pleasant to see. We did order some dessert. I was so excited about my Tres Leches cake that I forgot to take a picture, but it was delicious. Even my husband thought so and he does not care for Tres Leches, at all. He ordered an off menu dessert that one of the ladies told him about. A Peach Cheesecake. They did kinda forget about it, so we ended up asking for them to make it to go since we had been done for a while and my husband was ready to go. He did eat it once we got home and it was different for sure. I did also forget to take a picture of it, but it was like a little tart more than a slice and there were slices of fresh peach on top. It was well presented and he devoured every bite. He didn't even offer me any. We did spend a lot more money than we would have expected in a taco spot đ but all-in-all it was a great on the fly decision and we will definitely...
Read moreThe centerpiece of the restaurant is definitely the bar, which focuses on tequila and mezcal drinks. The menu sticks to traditional oitems without too much fluff, which we liked. We ordered a couple of tacos, an off-menu special, and drinks. While the food came out, the drinks never did. One of the plates had beans that were cold, and my dish came with a sauce that was heavily seasoned with cumin and salt. I mentioned to the waitress that I didnât expect the sauce to be part of the dish and asked if I could get it without since it was heavily seasoned and salty. She told me that the it was not a mistake she made. She added that was my responsibility to check the menu description. I pointed out that the item was a special and not listed on the menu at all. There was no specific description. She explained that if she took the plate back, it would come out of her pocket. She offered to bring me a new order. I would have to pay for it though. Of course, I declined. The waitress wxcused herself for a moment. She returned from the kitchen and said the chef didnât agree that the sauce was too salty or over-seasoned. Instead of looking for a solution, she continued trying to explain that the mistake wasnât hers. I then told her to take back the plate. Even at this point, we still had not received our drinks! I went to pay and the waitress charged for everything. I explained that I would only pay for the half eaten tacos and cold beans, but not for the rest. The waitress made an adjustment to the bill. Honestly, I felt bad for her. She seemed like she was doing her best, but clearly worried about getting penalized for the heavily cumined and salty food. I canât imagine why the owners would pressure the waitress to pay for a customerâs...
Read moreThis place is slept on and Iâm surprised that not many people know about Tacos El Patron. I came here twice this week because I had to show more of my friends about this spot. The inside is cozy and has many paintings/decorations of Frida Kahlo. Thereâs a good amount of space inside and my friend and I were seated right away. The water came in cute mason jars and the complimentary chips and salsa were great. As for the sauces, there were 4 bottles with different flavors- be careful of one of them because there is a habanero sauce which is super spicy!
I ordered the Birria Taco, Asada, and Lengua while my friend got the Taco de Pescado (Battered fish), Birria, and Carnita. When you order 2 or more tacos, you can get free sides which include Nopales (Cactus), Ceballa Asada (Griled Onion), Rabanos (radishes), and frijoles (beans). Everything tasted amazing but the star of the show was the Birria Taco. Wow, even without the broth on the side, this taco is so juicy and this place is generous with the amount of beef they put inside. The shell is crispy and the flavor is impeccable. And when dipping the Birria Taco in the broth, words canât express how delicious every bite was.
Aside from the incredible food and cozy interior, the staff members were so kind. They frequently checked up on my friends and I to make sure our experience here was good and gave good recommendations for food. All in all, I absolutely love Tacos El Patron and this place deserves more...
