Villa Montez is one of those places Iāve always wanted to try and for some reason, Iāve never made my way around to actually trying it. Iām very guilty of doing this with many restaurants.
I called yesterday and made a reservation for 5:30pm today for my wife and I. I spent the good part of last night thinking about it as well haha.
When you first walk up to this establishment, youāll probably find that youāre instantly taken back by the sheer beauty of everything. From the exquisite gardens and sculptures, to the stunning architecture. Everything just seems like itās where itās meant to be.
When we walked in, we were politely greeted by the hostess and a very kind gentleman by the name of Eli. We informed him of our reservation and he took us right to a table that sat inside a room with massive windows, overlooking the patio.
Our waitress came by shortly after and took our drink order. I believe her name was Rosa and she was the absolute best. A minute or 2 went by and she brought our drinks out with some chips and salsa. She also took our food and appetizer order. I ordered the tequila lime chicken pasta as my main dish and my wife wanted the queso fundido as hers. We also got the spinach and artichoke dip.
The chips and salsa were incredible. The chips seemed very fresh and still warm and the salsa had a very good flavor. Slight kick, but nothing too much.
The spinach and artichoke dip was honestly the best Iāve ever had and Iām not even exaggerating. The roasted jalapeno and garlic was such a nice touch.
My wifeās queso had the perfect consistency and flavor and it also came with 3 homemade tortillas.
To say that I enjoyed my pasta would be an understatement. The chicken was cooked to perfection, as well as the noodles. The fresh herb pesto cream had such a unique flavor to it in the best way possible.
To wrap things up, we ordered a slice of tres leches. We had no idea it would end up being almost 4 inches tall!!! It was so incredibly moist, not soggy. The homemade whipped cream was spectacular. Overall it was an amazing dessert.
I hate that Iāve waited so long to try this place. If youāre reading this and youāve yet to try it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I ate dinner here tonight. We had the chinolatino rolls as appetizers. Fairly bland overall but I did like the jalapeno jelly. The chips and salsa taste a lot like marinara sauce. Very sweet. I had the fajita burrito. Could not finish it, too salty and overall was not remotely good. I read an earlier review someone said the burrito here was the best they had ever had. I'm not sure where this person has been eating, but holy hell this is far from the best burrito I have ever had. My wife ordered the chimichurri steak medium. It came out very rare. It did have a good flavor and had it it been cooked like she asked it would have been fine. My daughter ordered a tequila lime chicken pasta dish. Her meal was actually pretty good. No complaints. My wife and I both had margaritas on the rocks. One house and one supreme. Both made well. Waiter did forget my tea in the beginning and had to be reminded. At the end of the meal we asked for a to go box for my daughters meal only. All of our meals had a lot left as the portion sizes are enormous and some were not very good. We explained to the waiter when he asked why we only needed one of the meals boxed up. He said he would fix the bill. We told him to please not worry about that and just bring the check. He did and also brought a complimentary creme brulee which was really good actually. I really wanted this place to be good. I read all the reviews and was looking forward to this. As this was for my 40th birthday. This was a huge let down overall. I came, I saw, I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe service we received on 4/12/2019 was atrocious. Our party was about 16 people and we had 1 server taking care of us. He did not refill drinks, chips, or salsa timely (or at all for some). The upper room we were in was freezing and that isn't dm something in his control but a place like Villa Montez should ask how the room is and see how the guests feel. Then, maybe he could turn the fan on/off or close vents some.
The food came to our table in pairs. Needless to say, by the time the last order came out everyone's food was cold. To even get the last meal out, one of us had to ask about it before it was brought out.
Another thing that contributed to the low rating is the way the food was delivered to each guest. If you are the server, use the pivot system to take and deliver the food. I was a server for about 15 years and I rarely went to my tables with the food and had to "auction" the food off because I knew what seat/person ordered each meal. I had a party of about 35 people and before their food came out I was calling each person by name and when I interacted with them I ised their name. To say it's impossible to know where food goes is limiting yourself and your staff. Implement something to make Villa Montez more upscale feeling by preventing "food auctioning". Even places like Burger King, McDonald's, and Taco Bell ask for your name to try and make it more personal.
Villa Montez, stop "food auctioning"...
