I have been going to Ground Zero for a long time; starting in my teen years. There are many things that have kept me coming to Ground Zero Comics over the years, but what sticks out the most is the way I have been treated over the years. Even from the first moment of me being a pesky teen they have always been welcoming. Taking the time to know me as a customer. Over the years this customer service has evolved as I got married and had children. This is a place I can bring my daughters and son and know that they are in a safe gaming environment that is nurturing the younger geek crowd. This is the premier place for my family to get out gaming and comics fix; along with a fantastic community of geeks that are second to none.
You want comics I guarantee you will not find another with as large a selection in the East Texas area. They have comics and they know their comics. Countless times I have been advised on a comic to read, and not been disappointed. Again back to that whole; these folks take the time to get to know their customers. Looking for games Ground Zero has a huge selection of games; board-games, table-top,Magic the Gathering; minis (Gamesworkshop, Wizkids, Fantasyflight. If there is a mini they more than likely have it... and the best part; if they don't have the item you are looking for.. they will special order it for you!!! They have a great selection of Statues and action figures and novelty items. If you are looking for great people Dave and his family are it. If you are looking for the best community in the Tyler East Texas Area, this is the palace it is happening.. Ground Zero Comics. If you are looking for a place that will feed your inner geek.. Look no farther.
Bottom line... Great people, passionate about the Comic and Game culture, friendly, and helpful.
For me Quality matters, and this place has it!

Read moreBack when I moved here I was looking for a friendly store that would be appropriate for my kids to come play games with me when I had an evening off. I tried this one third of three, as it's the furthest away from me and just happened to be last of my stops.
Dave, the owner, greeted me with a smile as soon as I walked in but didn't bother me as I wandered around the store looking to see what was available. When I had a question he answered to the best of his ability, but brought his son in for further details, since his area of expertise seems specialized in comics, not miniwargaming. His son was engaging, answered my questions with enthusiasm and seemed a likeable guy.
There is a large dedicated area for gaming, and to my surprise there were people there painting miniatures, which is a good indication that this would fit my hobby needs. Against the wall was one of the best selections of miniatures I've seen outside of a Games Workshop store, accompanied by a fully stocked paint rack. They also have a GW board set up against one wall, apparently all the time.
There were two teenaged boys at one table who were being pretty vulgar, but a girl sitting nearby reminded them that this was a family appropriate store and that the tacky language wasn't welcome. They settled down quickly and went back to their game.
The other two places had problems: the one by the mall was entirely unwelcoming, vulgar and smelled bad. The one on the south end of town seemed friendly, but they don't do miniwargaming.
I feel that Ground Zero has earned my gaming dollar, not because they particularly were going out of their way to make me feel welcome, but because they seem like a welcoming playgroup and store. Family appropriate, clean, active gamers, massive selection, dedicated space for painting AND wargaming. Five...
Read moreThe fact they have been open as long as they is honestly astounding. Everyone that works for this store is rude as can be. They want a guarantee you’re going to purchase collectibles before you can even take a closer look. The owner is rude and talks down towards customers as if he knows more than they do(and I can absolutely guarantee he doesn’t). His wife is just as bad. No one should give these jerks business. I had avoided shopping here for years because of his wife’s attitude and treatment towards me and not being able to inspect a piece without a guaranteed purchase was the nail in the coffin. Both owner and I’m assuming son, tried to gaslight me into thinking I was wrong for wanting to inspect the desired piece. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS LOCATION. It should say tons that ALL the negative feedback states how rude these people are.
Going to update to point out that the owner responded trying to again gaslight the customer(not even addressing the correct person, I might add) and avoid responsibility for their HORRENDOUS attitudes. It has been pointed out in pretty much every review with a body to it that the major issues with this location is the attitude and holier than thou mentality the staff has. Just because they have a monopoly on comics in the area does not make this a quality shop. If you want to be treated like a C.H.U.D., shop here. If you want to be treated like a person, shop literally anywhere else, I recommend Excalibur comics...
