UPDATE UPDATE SINCE THE OWNER RESPONDED.
YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL THE QUALITY AND THE CHARACTER OF A RESTAURANT OWNER IN THE WAY THEY REPLY TO CRITICISM AND GOOD REVIEWS. I gave rave reviews about Charm Thai Kitchen on how delicious and fresh their food is and also how well executed and beautiful the interior was done... Not a word. Not a we are glad you enjoyed your experience, not a thank you come again, nothing. But a little bit of criticism and I get a four paragraph essay.
If you don't want people to criticize your barbecue then don't set yourself up and advertise yourself as barbecue. It's simple as that your big sign on the front of your building says Charm BBQ. Your name on Google says Charm BBQ. But it's funny that you admit that you are not a barbecue restaurant. And you're going to try to be smug with the customer about it? I didn't say anything about your food not being fresh I merely mention that it tasted like it was reheated in a microwave. And yes after experiencing Charm Thai and all the greatness it has to offer that kind of sets up expectations for your other establishments. Sadly as I mentioned before everything in Charm BBQ misses the mark from the absolute depressing cave of a restaurant (not sure if different designer or builder?) that in every way still resembles Tapped and trying to pass off the fact that you got 50 beers just like tapped (like that did them any good), or the lack luster "fusion" BBQ. If you fill the need to defend your restaurant against someone who gave it multiple chances instead of apologizing and inviting us BACK for a better experience then I can guarantee you this place won't be open more than a year. Poor ownership. Poor food and depressing place. You just lost a frequent Charm Thai customer too.
#####UPDATE##### Was going to catch a movie next door and decided to give this place another chance. Never expected it to be worse but it was. Service was ok but the food was still just bland. Had some Thai rice with brisket and it just wasn't good. Like at all. The rice was nothing like Charm on research. The brisket tasted, not sure how to explain it...old? Like been in the fridge for a couple days then reheated. God Almighty the atmosphere and decoration is gloomy and ugly. Not sure what happened between Charm Kitchen and this place. We won't be back.
Food was pretty good. Couldn't help but shake the feeling I was still sitting in Tapped. After frequenting Charm Thai Kitchen pretty regularly and being impressed with the food and the decor I was really looking forward to this place. The barbecue is good even with the flavor twist to pair with Thai food but it's not the best out there when it comes to food fusion. Another disappointing aspect is with such a home run hit with Charm Thai, You wouldnt believe it was the same owners. Food is good enough to stop in every once in awhile if in the area but not really good enough to make it a point to drive across town for it or go for a date night. I mentioned above that I literally still feel like I'm sitting in tapped. Looks like they just did the bare minimum on decorating the place which is a complete 180, and on top of that it doesn't look that well done. I walked in expecting to be WOWED, but not the case.
Parking was a pain. Expect to park down the isle or in front of good Charlie's if you're lucky. No fault of the restaurant but getting in and out of that area with 1488 the way it is is a freaking nightmare.
For reference Charm Thai got five stars across the board. Charm Tap House, not so much. I'll try to post a couple pics but can't...
Read moreCharm Taphouse & BBQ – Where Thai Soul Meets Texas Smoke! Nestled in Conroe’s Marcel Town Center, Charm Taphouse & BBQ is a bold culinary mashup that dares—and succeeds—to fuse the smoky swagger of Texas barbecue with the vibrant, herbaceous punch of Thai cuisine. The result? A menu that reads like a love letter to flavor, fire, and fusion.
Charm Taphouse doesn’t just serve food—it tells a story. The ambiance is casual yet polished, with a welcoming vibe that invites you to linger over a craft beer or mocktail while savoring dishes that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. It’s clear the team here isn’t afraid to experiment, and that adventurous spirit permeates every bite.
We started with the spring rolls and the Massaman Potato Salad. At just $4.99, the Massaman Potato Salad might be one of the most unassuming items on their menu—but don’t let its modest price or simple name fool you. This side dish is a quiet triumph, marrying the creamy comfort of classic potato salad with the warm, aromatic depth of Thai massaman curry. The potatoes are tender but not mushy, absorbing the rich, slightly sweet massaman curry base like sponges of flavor. Hints of cinnamon, cardamom, and clove peek through the coconut-infused dressing, giving it a subtle complexity that sets it apart from traditional BBQ sides. There’s a gentle heat—not overpowering, but enough to remind you this isn’t your grandma’s picnic salad.
We then shared their signature dish as our main course. Tex-Thai BBQ Fried Rice ($25.99). The smoked brisket meets wok-fried rice, topped with ribs and Thai BBQ sauce. It’s indulgent, smoky, and surprisingly balanced. It doesn’t just sit quietly on your plate—it makes a statement. It’s a bold, smoky, spicy fusion that captures the heart of the restaurant’s concept. Wok-fried rice infused with the deep umami of house-smoked brisket. The rice is fluffy yet rich, with a subtle char that hints at high-heat wok technique. We opted for the fatty brisket topping which brings a Texas-style depth—smoky, beefy, and satisfying. The Thai BBQ sauce is the bridge between East and West: tangy, spicy, and aromatic, with just enough heat to wake up your palate. Every bite is layered: the rice absorbs the brisket’s juices, the ribs add richness, and the sauce ties it all together with a punch of flavor. This dish is a fusion done right—not gimmicky, but grounded in technique and flavor. It’s hearty enough to satisfy a BBQ lover, and nuanced enough to intrigue Thai food fans. If you’re only ordering one entrée at Charm, make it this one.
In summary, Charm Taphouse & BBQ isn’t just another fusion spot—it’s a culinary crossroads where brisket meets basil, and ribs get a Thai remix. Prices hover in the $20–30 range, which feels fair given the portion sizes and complexity of flavors. Whether you're a barbecue purist or a Thai food fanatic, this place will challenge your palate in the best way. It is a destination-worthy experience for anyone who loves bold flavors and...
Read moreWow what an Amazing restaurant & food was Phenomenal. From the start of entering the restaurant what a beautiful restaurant and perfect layout to accommodate for couples to large parties. Was greeted right away by hostess & owners which is unheard of these days. Was seated immediately and was given a run down of happy hour drink menu and appetizers on menu. Words can’t express how great the appetizers were nor the great drinks to complement the start of a great dinner experience. We had the pork belly boa buns, thai yum ribs, smoked double fried wings and the massaman potato salad. Folks I was speechless and so excited that I couldn’t contain myself and forgot to take pics of all the appetizers lol. Meat was so tender, meat was smoked perfect, boa buns were so soft and potato salad had a great thai twist to top it off. The presentation of the food was very pleasing to the eye and I will say portions were very satisfying for the price. The drink selection was amazing and drinks were top notch. The bartender was amazing and was very knowledgeable and personable which was great. My wife tried the lying buddha and the ladies night. I had the pineapple king and saved the best for last the smoked piggy fashioned. I will say these are some of the best drinks we have had in quite some time, especially a Thai BBQ restaurant setting. We ended the night with a order of yellow curry with smoked turkey which was a first to me. I have to say I am not a curry fan nor expert but that was the bomb.com hands down!!! I happen to take a picture of it and my smoked piggy fashioned for reference ;). I would highly recommend this restaurant and please know there are so many other choices at this amazing restaurant we didn’t even try. Weather you want something small or have a large appetite they can cater to your taste buds. Don’t let the twist between two major food staples deter you or convince you otherwise. You will regret not going and experiencing the best in this area period. This restaurant is for all food lovers and can accommodate in any choice of meat of your liking and whip out a awesome drink to complement your day or evening as well. We will definitely be back and since going is now one our favorite places for sure. So cheers to Charm and you, look forward to seeing you...
