It pains me to write this review because my husband and I have been loyal customers for almost 5 years, but there have just been too many changes that have compromised the quality and experience we once loved.
First, the customer service lately is atrocious. We used to eat here on almost a weekly basis, and the last 3 times we’ve been here, they’ve messed up our to-go order. There’s just zero excuse for that, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Our order is always pretty simple and there’s never more than 2 other customers eating at the restaurant. It’s just very careless service, especially for the price.
Second, they keep changing the street tacos. It used to be very simple, straightforward street tacos (which were fantastic), and then to increase prices, they changed it to include rice along with 5 street tacos for $11.99–even if you don’t want the rice. We’ve sucked it up because we’ve always liked their street tacos. Yesterday, however, we discovered that they’ve now decreased the same-sized street tacos from 5 to 4 tacos (if you’re ordering them on any other tortilla besides corn tortillas), but the price is still the same. Makes absolutely no sense. The barbacoa was also all fatty meat. It was very disappointing.
Third, I’m not sure why they are so unreasonable about their creamy green sauce, but if you want their creamy green salsa to dip your tacos in, it’s now another $4.99 for a small container of salsa. They used to have a salsa bar where all of their different sauces (and other toppings) were available for FREE. The fact that they are charging for sauce to dip your tacos is truly ridiculous. Not even the holy grail of tacos—Tacodeli—charges for their award-winning green sauce (Doña sauce) because it’s just nonsensical. It’s salsa, not guacamole or queso. This is the only place that charges for basic sauce, and it’s just not warranted.
Yesterday, they once again messed up our straightforward order of street tacos and a large order of guacamole and chips, and then we had to wait for them to fix it all while our food was getting cold. But what I found even more surprising is that the waitress also still charged us extra to fix HER mistake. It’s just disappointing. This place has a lot of potential, but it has just gradually gone downhill. I usually don’t write reviews, but hope that doing so will prompt some changes because we truly did love this place...
Read moreI have to go against the grain, because there are a lot of stellar reviews here, but unfortunately that's not the experience we had at Bigotes.
First, I love the actual space. Colorful, TVs in all corners, nice branding everywhere. I think they made the most of a somewhat small space.
The service was fine, but neutral. The employees seemed pretty worn out or something. Not generally happy and helpful. I suppose this has to do with the fact it's new.
Now, the most important part. The food. The good news is that the pricing seems quite fair. Generally speaking you get four or five tacos for about $8-$9. When you combine the ingredients they serve you on your taco with ones you can self serve at the salsa bar it's probably a pretty decent deal for most people. However if you're inclined to mostly want just meat and cheese you'll be a little disappointed because you don't get very much meat.
The fish tacos which go for $8.99 really had very little fish in them. So little, in fact, you couldn't really taste it through the lettuce, tomatoes, and other things. So one area of improvement I think they could make would be to add just a little extra meat to these tacos.
Another choice you make is whether you want them served on flour or corn tortillas. The corn tortillas we were served we're actually quite good, but the flour ones were very dry and not good at all. And considering those are the base for the whole meal, you can see how that would be a problem.
I'll give them a couple of months to work out the kinks and then try them again. I have high hopes for this place. Just a few tweaks and...
Read moreFirst off, my wife and I usually love this place. The food is always really good. The problem this time was multifaceted. First, we ordered our meal online right before they opened at 10am, and were told it would be ready in 10 minutes. We showed up to pick up our order around 10:15 and were told that the system didn't print our order ticket so they would have to start it right then. There was a couple who ordered in the restaurant right in front of me. I saw them get their food and finish their entire meals as I waited for my order. To make things worse, my wife and young kids were waiting in the car for something that should have been a quick stop for pickup. After waiting there for 20 minutes I went back to the checker to check on my order. He couldn't give me a time frame for when my 2 breakfast tacos and chilaquiles plate which is basically salsa and cheese on chips with chorizo on top. I explained to him that I had a screaming baby in the car at this point and I needed to know how much longer it would be. He just smirked and said they were working on it and he couldn't give me a time. In the meantime, I saw 2 other customers actually cancel their orders and get refunds and leave. Finally, 45 MINUTES after I arrived, they finally gave us our order. Never offered anything to drink, or to comp any part of our order or anything else. It was by far the worst service experience I have ever received from this place. It's too bad, because we have always enjoyed this place prior to this and it may be a long while before we go back...
