Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Wide variety of items to choose from. Wife said her margarita was really good. I got the street tacos, and they were pretty good. She got the habanero chicken sandwich. The reason I'm giving three stars on the food is because of some consistency issues. We eat tons of Mexican food down in Texas all the time. My wife lives in D.F. Mexico for three years, so we are really into Mexican food, especially salsas. We are always putting Mrs Renfro's Hot Green Salsa on our food at home all the time. We also make our own from scratch. So here is my take on the salsas at this restaurant . The tomato based salsa served with the chips before dinner was great. The green sauce and chipotle sauce that came with my street sauce was crazy hot. I think maybe they left it in the blender too long and ground the jalapeño seeds too much. That raises the heat a lot, but doesn't do much for the flavor. I've done this before making salsa. My wife's sandwich, on the other hand, didn't have enough pics in it. It tasted like someone chopped up a little mango and added it to regular salsa, not habañero.
The funny thing is, whenever I go anywhere, I dump a certain amount of salsa on my stuff, because I really like salsa. In this case, I would have been wiser to taste it first. But getting stuff that is too hot is really a rare thing for me. I live in Texas 7 months out of year and I've been married into a Mexican family for almost 40 years. So I just dumped my usual amount into my taco. Imagine my surprise when I started to feel the excessive heat. I gave a bite to my wife and warned her beforehand. "Gawdaaaaam that is way too hot!" Was her response. And then when she tried her chicken sandwich, she was like, "Where is the spice?"
(Also, there was a lot more bun than chicken, so another place to improve.)
We got the street corn, which we usually love. I think it would be good if they could have bought some local in season...I think this was probably frozen. I get that sometimes you need to do that, but man it's summer and they grow it right up the hill at Surowiec's Farm. Save the frozen stuff for Winter. Minor complaint.
We paid $73 which included a 20 percent tip. (Friendly service) So this is not a cheap place.
Bathrooms were super clean, always a good sign.
I think if they made the salsa and then sampled it first, that would go a long way toward improving things.
My wife's comment going home was: "Man, if there salsa is too much for a Mexican who lives in Mexico and grew up in this food, how the hell are all the gringos up here going to find it?"
So I think they could work on that and really pull the experience together.
!Buena suerte! Y...
Read moreMy family and I decided to check this place out since we enjoy Mexican food. First thing we noticed was the music was a bit loud, second thing the table we sat at was abnormally high.. my dad’s 6’4 and even he was uncomfortable. We ordered the loaded nachos for an appetizer and it was disappointing the meat was too big, too dry, & too few. There was barley any cheese, just a drizzle of sour cream on top & just felt lacking overall, the taste was alright. The trays they use for the food is giving prison tray.. just an observation. We ordered 2 traditional burgers they were the worse burgers we’ve ever had and personally if you’re going to serve burgers they should be done well… the meat was dry, over cooked, and had an odd taste reminded us of a frozen burger. Also got the Mango habanero sandwich… there was nothing special about it and the chicken was really thin. Where all the employees stand feels out of place and they kept staring which I guess could be in case we need something but also felt a bit strange. The overall customer service was great and they were accommodating and kind, had a bit of a communication issue but it was handled. We felt the quality of the food did not match the bill.. we were quite ready to leave by the end of it and will not be returning. We recommend el jimadors where the portion size, quality, service, and atmosphere never disappoints. This place is giving bar food...
Read moreFood: I ordered the veggie bowl, which had a good variety of vegetables and tasted great. However, the portion of black beans and white rice felt a bit less than expected. The major issue was finding a piece of steak in my bowl — a serious concern since I’m vegetarian. The staff offered to replace the dish, but I chose to remove the steak myself and continue eating, as I didn’t want them to throw away the entire bowl and create food waste. Still, this was an unacceptable experience and should not happen, especially with dietary preferences.
Service: The service was responsive and courteous. They immediately offered to change the dish after I brought up the issue and also helped us move to an indoor table when the weather turned cold.
Ambience: The outdoor seating area is lovely with a decent view, making it a pleasant option when the weather is nice. We moved indoors once it got chilly, and the inside space was comfortable as well.
Parking: Plenty of free parking is available, which made the visit hassle-free.
Overall: While the food was tasty and the service was good, the presence of meat in a vegetarian dish was extremely disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes extra care going forward to avoid...
