Excellent hearty food! Recommended! We visited Murph’s Hideaway for a 12 people family dinner while staying in Poconos in July 2024. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. We liked it so much that in just two days came back with a smaller crew and enjoyed it again :) They also had a good local beer on tap - Broken Heels Hazy IPA. We didn’t catch live music but saw the band setting up. First time the service was a bit rough and for some reason they couldn’t arrange us a single/combined table though I called in advance and made a reservation for 12 people. Second time our waitress was Carol and we got a great service. All was smooth and nice. We highly recommend Murph’s Hideaway if you are in the area and looking for an excellent American bar/grill food. Food ordered Flat Basket wings - these are tiny but tender and delicious with really little fat. We found them better than regular bigger wings with much more fat. 12 Wings - regular buffalo wings. Tiny flats are better. Home Made Chili - excellent. Crock French Onion soup - I didn't expect much from a French Onion soup ordered in American grill restaurant. But this was surprisingly good! Key Largo Shrimp - good. Primavera flat bread - certainly pass on this one. The dough was pretty thick, far from "flat", and the toppings tasted like canned veggies. Cheesesteak Quesadilla and Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla - both were absolutely delicious! Fresh, juicy, with generous amount of filling. Philly Cheesesteak - good as it should be. Shepherd Pie - this one is restaurant's special and it was excellent according to few people in our party. I wish I could try it but it had pork which I don't eat. Burgers: Hawaiian Burger, Jack Burger, Cajun Bleu Burger - all were absolutely great! Generous 1/2 lbs they were, perfectly done as ordered (I had medium-rare), juicy, sizzling, and overall perfect! I want Murph’s Hideaway's burger again!

I am a local and have eaten here before. Mostly burgers and sandwiches. Love to be outside since our warm weather season is short. Had the Shepherds Pie when they first opened and it was amazing…stopped by on a Monday evening and asked Crystal the bartender what was her favorite. I broke my heel and wanted something I would have leftovers. She recommended roast chicken which she recommended fried her fav. I was blown away. It was a fried chicken without all the breading. Juicy, seasoned well cooked perfectly. With seasoned mashed and a vegi medley which was peppers, onions, broccoli and asparagus all cooked to order, firm not mushy. It’s unfortunate but I am a creature of habit. This will most likely be my go to meal. Can’t wait to eat my leftovers. So yummy. And those who know me know I’m particular and hard to please. Crystal is now my new best friend, her recommendation and attention to her customers surpasses some in the area. Thank you Crystal for your kindness and great customer service. Which is hard to find nowadays.

Large party, everyone who ordered shepherds pie had hard plastic bits in their food. Sent it back. It also was tasteless and unseasoned. Mac and cheese was completely tasteless and unseasoned. Served beer out of chipped glasses as well. Completely baffling experience. Edit: Also, they couldn't even split the bill correctly. We have been here for more than three hours going over the bill, explaining that it's not normal to be charged for a comp meal of beef stew (we were not told the price or given another option). Manager told us we should have told management sooner and tried to offer us a gift card. Management should have been well aware of the issue the moment three shepards pies came back with plastic in them. I have never had such a ridiculous experience, the owner should be embarrassed.

It doesn’t get more “dog-unfriendly” than this place. We were driving past looking for a place to eat and noticed the deck behind the restaurant. We parked and headed in where we asked whether we could bring the dog out in the deck. The answer was no, so the family proceeded in and into the deck while I stayed outside with my toy poodle. We walked around the property to the back planning to stay on the massive lawn while the family ate on the deck. This is when the manager returned and informed me that the dog was not permitted ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY, including the lawn or parking lot. That sounded absolutely insane given the abundance of wildlife in this area. So, we picked up and left proceeding further down the road to a similar establishment. This pizzeria also had an Outdoor area w tables and our dog was welcome. We proceeded to call several other places just to ask regarding their pet rules and, while some did not allow pets on their decks (understandable to a degree), keeping them off the property altogether was a completely foreign concept to all. Moral of the story- if you have a pet and want to grab a bite, keep driving! Murphy’s is not for you!

RESPONSE TO THE REPLY BELOW:

So your customers often venture into the woods off your closed-off patio the only exit from which is through the restaurant? And I am assuming the deer, rabbits and squirrels are aware they aren’t allowed to “go” anywhere on your premises? Responsible dog owners actually clean up after their pets, unlike the wildlife around your establishment.

Let’s also stop with the lies that I brought the dog out over twice. I headed straight to the side by your deck upon our arrival and stayed there the entire time. Yes, there are signs and yes we were told service dogs only were allowed, but not until we sat down was it clarified that this included your entire property, which every business within miles of your establishment is in agreement is an absolutely ridiculous policy. While this is a policy you are within your rights to implement and enforce, I am within my rights to choose not to patronize your restaurant and also advise others with pets to do the same, especially while there are significantly more reasonable places within...

This experience was horrible and only keeps getting worse. We had a large party and at the beginning of the meal informed our server of who was on which bill. Out of the 13 people there were 4 of us who ordered shepherds pie considering this is considered an “Irish” restaurant. The appetizers were good and the drink special for happy hour was also good. Once we received entrees one person in our party quickly found plastic in their shepherds pie, it wasn’t long after that the rest of the other 3 people who also got shepherds pie all had found plastic as well. We were told that we could have beef stew instead. Another member in our party was drinking beer out of a chipped glass and had to ask for a replacement.

Once the bills were passed out we found out the bill was in fact not only split as we were told it would be but the meals that should have been comped weren’t even comped and we were paying for their mistake.

When the beef stew was told to be the replacement no one in the party was informed of a price difference, as well as we weren’t told we had any other option, I don’t eat beef stew and didn’t eat mine either due to the trust lost in my first meal having plastic.

To make the experience worse the manager was beyond rude, and condescending, after having an attitude she tried to offer us a gift card to come back and try more food. After explaining that we would not be returning due to the bad experience she snatched the gift card right back and proceeded to stomp away.

After leaving an honest review the “owner” responded that apparently 4 out of our party of 13 people brought their own plastic to put in their food to try and get a free meal. What they failed to mention is any one in our party that DIDNT have plastic in their food paid their bill with no issue. In fact we did what we could to help the server divide the bills for over an hour!

Overall this was a horrible experience, between the food being bad, the management and “owner” are a complete disgrace. If you can avoid this place do it your stomach will thank you and you won’t be accused of being a problem when their food just sucks. The department of health should be paying this...
