To sum it up in a short few words - lively, fun, yummy and loud!
If you like loud, then Friday night happy hour is the place for you. It was very overwhelming for my autistic self, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this trip very much!
I love prime rib and had been wanting to stop by to get one for a long time. Of course, I ordered it rare, and rare it did come!! Cooked to absolute perfection, and even the fat was tasty. Which, if you are an avid steak eater like me, you know isn't always the case and can be pretty hard to achieve. The dipping sauce for the prime rib was delectable. It's very easy to impress me but I must say, danm! I was impressed!!!
(My love also came here after that, and got the steak more well done. It's a shame to do that to a perfectly good prime rib, BUT! It was still pretty good.)
I went here with my love after a really rough day. It was the comfort food we both absolutely needed. As I said, I ordered the prime rib dinner, and they ordered the cheeseburger. It was a very busy night, and the waitresses were busting their behinds, serving everyone. Kudos to them. They were doing great and rocking it in the process.
We also ordered some drinks. We had to show what we wanted, and they made it right away. I ordered a blue lagoon, and my love ordered a shark attack. Very similar drinks. They wrote down the little recipes and made em super sweet. They were so delicious.
We had also ordered the onion ring boat. IT WAS A LITTLE BOAT WITH ONION RINGS ON IT. It was absolutely astonishing, I had never seen anything so creative. As you can see, the picture of me enjoying the onion ring boat. The only thing is they gave me a ranch for the onion rings. I didn't know that, I'd have asked for ketchup. But!!! The ranch was very good! (I did end up asking for ketchup) The onion rings were cooked perfectly and were not too oily or greasy at all.
A salad and a dinner roll were brought out first. The salad was very good, the cheese was a very good addition. I never see salads with cheese in resteraunts, and I have no idea why. The dinner roll was so fluffy, and the huge thing of butter they brought out was so exciting.
Then came my loves cheese burger. The bun was good. The veggies on it were good. I got a total of 0 complaints/notes from them. I had a bite myself, and the meat was done perfectly. It was juicy, not over or under done, and tender. The tomato wasn't old or soggy. The pickles were crisp. The cheese covered the entire patty. The fries were alright, though I like them crispier than most people. My love ate em up with no questions, so no notes there from me! I love it when the fries have the potato skins still.
I went to the bathroom. Teeny 'n tiny, but clean and decent. When I came out, my food was there. God, it smelled so good. I already commented on the steak. The potato, however, was very good, though it was just a bit hard in the center. It's hard to get it perfect with such a HUGE POTATO. The thing was massive, bigger than my hand. The skin was lovely. The broccoli was not cooked enough, but my love prefers them like that, so it worked out. I'll have to remember to ask them to make my broccoli mushy. 🥦
The tables were glittery and so stimmy. (Stimmy means that it made my brain shimmer with happy feelings). The pirate theme is incorporated very well into it all. Though it was a bit hard to appreciate with all the people there. The decoration was super fun to look at, and my brain didn't get bored.
The plates and silverware were clean, the cups were clean, and the table was clean. Very clean!
Only complaint i have at all is how close the tables were together where we had been seated.
All for very affordable prices considering today's economy.
To top it off, we also got some dessert. Chocolate lava cake with some ice cream. It was perfect. It was a wonderful date with my love that made our night so much better.
Accessibility seems pretty decent here. I can't remember if the televisions had subtitles because I didn't have my glasses and couldn't see...
Read moreWe have ordered pizza to go before which was pretty decent. Tonight we decided to bring the family and sit down for the first time. The place is nice and the interior is really homie but it was very loud and i had a hard time hearing my server, I couldnt really talk to my wife across the table without yelling. They were slammed when we arrived but we were able to get a table fairly quickly. I will say that our server did give us a warning that it would be about 45 minutes for our food as they were very backed up.
I appreciated the honesty and we decided to stay. After ordering our drinks and dinner the drinks came fairly quickly. The next time we had a server check on us was when the food came. They brought us our food and asked if we were okay or needed anything but didn't bring an appetizer we ordered. The waitress said she would check on it and get back to us. She came back quickly and said it was on the way all of the fryers were being used.
My burger was tasty but very over cooked and burnt on the edges. My son got a pizza which he enjoyed. I had a beer and the waitress asked what I was drinking. When I told her she took my beer even though the glass was not empty. I waited about 5 minutes for another drink. After that we didn't see anyone until we got our check and we never got our appetizer.
I get they were very busy and that's in part because they are 1/3 food options in town, but service was a little lacking. I will say our server was super nice and polite and even warned us in the beginning about wait times which i greatly appreciated. The 3 stars is simply because the food was meh and quite expensive for what you got. When we got our bill they charged us for the appetizer but the waitress removed it when I asked her to because we never got it.
To be fair I didn't complain about the burger because I am not that way, plus I ate it because I was super hungry. We will probably order pizza to go from here but I'm not sure about sitting in on a...
Read moreI see at least one review refer to Donna’s Place as a hidden gem…and they are 100% accurate. We were traveling some backroads exploring the state and stumbled across Toledo and therefore Donna’s Place. From the outside my wife and I both commented on how charming it looked. Walking in we saw it is not only charming, but very warm and inviting. The decor and atmosphere makes you feel at ease and comfortable, like a part of the town. Our waitress did a great job making sure we never felt forgotten or lacking anything. She was also great to interact with! Another individual (we assume an employee) was adding information to one of the televisions and we had very fun and pleasant exchanges with them as well. The food was quite delicious. It really brought the feeling of “down home comfort” out. And for desert they had a freshly made strawberry cheesecake. Delicious is not a strong enough word to describe how good it tasted! We enjoyed our visit so much that we made sure to buy a hat to remember Donna’s Place. If we are ever in the area again we will...
