My first visit at El Camaron Gigante was very positive.
First the restaurant. This is a a brand new building, so everything is fresh and clean. There is a nice layout and even a small separation between the family friendly seating and the bar area. The kitchen is in plain view so one could observe the magic.
The service was quick and friendly (Kim D). Small note on another server working (Nere). I ordered a margarita and they were missing "an ingredient" so she approached me and asked how I liked it? I'm not sure what the missing ingredient was but they need to start making their margaritas this way; it was really good!
The location had a lot of parking and again is in a brand new building. They do loo like they have a drive up window but it is not open for drive up orders.
The prices are a bit on the heavier side, but appropriate for the food quality and service received. Our bill for food, one mix drink, and an appetizer with a 18% tip came in at $57.02.
Margarita $7.00 Calamar Frito (calamari) $20.99 Shrimp taco $3.99 Chicken taco $3.50 Fish burrito $9.49
The food. The margarita again was really good and compared to some other restaurants and bars is priced right. The tacos were a little bigger than a street taco. Two is a good number to satisfy the hunger but you would need an app and drink to fill you up. The Fish burrito was right off the grill hot which is wonderful. The size will fill you up with no appetizer required. It was almost $10.50 but I would say the size and flavor is worth the cost. The calamari. I've had calamari from Italian restaurants, seafood restaurants, and steak houses. This plate would rank number one of any calamari I have ever had. Why? Most other recipes have either small rings or tentacles breaded and deep fried with the appearance of small bite size morsels. These were all rings and a good size. They looked more like onion ring and not all clumped together or greasy. People say you first and foremost, eat with your eyes'. This dish is very appealing. The rings sit a top of a bed of vegetables and the accompany sauce is a nice seafood blend.
Other items include their rice and beans (with the fish burrito). The beans were an nice creamy re-fried selection. If there was one complaint and not one that I feel would lower their score from 5 stars, it would be the rice. It had a mix of carrots and corn to add to the flavor but did not help the dryness. Mixing the rice with the beans did help and probably saved it from getting a 4 stars on the food.
Another aspect I really liked about Gigante is their use of the Toast check system. The receipts and detailed with a copy of your signature.
Guy Fieri if you are reading this, you need to come to this new hometown favorite.
I can't wait for pay day to try another dish...
Read moreBeen here so many times I can't remember. The food here is so delicious. The menu has food for seafood lovers and some options for those who aren't fans. The appetizers are really good my favorites being the toritos, empanadas de camaron, chicharrones pargo and best for last the camarones cucaracha. Just FYI the botana mix has a mixture of almost all these appetizers incase you don't know which to choose. The entrée dishes are delicious aswell. The camarones culichi and a la crema are some that can't stay out of my order. The fajitas are always so filling. The aguachiles are mouth watering and their homemade waters are the best. The micheladas will never disappoint. Let's talk about the service now, they aren't robots to keep everyone happy but service is good. I've been there on their slow days aswell as their busy ones and they are always able to help and provide good service. I have to recognize that they won't be able to be on top of the game all the time because they do have many tables at times and sometimes people can be demanding but that is why there are many servers if 1 can't help the other one might be able too. They are hard working people that sometimes get punished with their tips because food might take long, we have to understand the restaurant is not McDonald's food will obviously take some time especially when there are big parties, weekends and because they have takeout orders too. Let's remember they live off their tips. I will continue taking my...
