GREAT ATMOSPHERE AWARD šŸ„‡ HOT & FAST FOOD AWARD šŸ„‡ FRESHLY MADE INGREDIENTS AWARD šŸ„‡ GREAT SERVICE AWARD šŸ„‡

Party of 2. Stopped into Hazelwood for their brunch on Saturday January 27th 2024 around 11 am. This is a large seating-capacity restaurant and we were seated immediately in a cozy room with a wall built-in gas fireplace. Overall the restaurant had a very inviting ambiance. There are two bar areas, a huge wood-fired pizza oven, and another large seating area, and a line of booths as well. We were greeted by Javier almost immediately, and we ordered quickly. Our piping hot meals arrived within about 12 minutes. We didn’t order alcohol. We had Huevos Rancheros ($12.95) and the Chicken Pot Pie $(16.95). On first taste we both realized the ingredients used in both entrees had been prepped that day and were fresh and tasty. Both were served in a piping hot oven-heated crock bowl sitting on a cooled plate, they were very aesthetically pleasing. The Chicken Pot Pie was not a ā€œpieā€ per se, it was a freshly baked buttered & flaky round puff pastry sitting atop a lot of creamy veggies and chunks of fresh chicken. The taste was delicious. It was obvious the chicken had come straight off the bird, as I did find a couple (very small) pieces of harder chicken pieces in the mix. It was no big deal. No bones were found. The Huevos Rancheros was also hot and steamy, served in the same oven-heated crock with a cool plate beneath. It included 3 warm flour tortillas wrapped in foil, beans, chorizo, cilantro and a side of fresh avocado. Two sunny side up eggs and cheeses, chorizo and crispy tortilla strips were on top. The taste here was simple, not too spectacular (we probably should have accepted the hot sauce that was offered, it may have given more flavor). However the ingredients were obviously fresh that morning. Both meals were VERY filling. I would give this the WORTH THE PRICE AWARD šŸ„‡ as well. No problem when we presented a gift card with our check. I tipped accordingly to the original cost without the discount. It happened to be my friends’ birthday, and she was given a free scoop of vanilla ice cream with caramel, chocolate fudge and freshly whipped cream (not from a bottle) and a cherry on top. Two spoons were included for sharing. I would recommend Hazelwood for any time of the day’s meal. Next we’ll go for dinner! Thanks Hazelwood for a great...

Okay, I'm a little delayed on my review for Hazelwood and I apologize for that. It really is a very lovely place to dine. I was lucky enough to be taken here for lunch for watching over my youngest nephew. Fortunately, my family are a bunch of foodies, including my adult children.

Anyway...we were having a late lunch in the early Spring of the year so the place was quiet, which in my opinion was very nice. We were seated in a large horseshoe shaped, well padded corner booth. Plenty of room for the four of us.

Us adults ordered the Hazelwood Chopped Salad ($15.95), the Salmon Bowl ($20.95) and the Shrimp & Scallop Scampi ($28.95) with a side of their amazing hash browns.

The Chopped Salad consists of tender shredded chicken, bacon bits, fresh corn off the cob, thinly sliced granny smith apples, a chopped nicely boiled egg, colorful fresh grape tomatoes topped off with crumbles of amablu cheese. The dressing was an in house Herb Vinaigrette that was just as tasty as the salad.

Then of course there was the Salmon Bowl with charred corn salsa that was addicting, it fit in perfectly with the fresh baby greens, edamame, crisp juicy cucumbers & grape tomatoes. The brown rice was cooked to perfection. It wasn't dry or over cooked. I can say the same thing about the salmon fillet, nicely prepared with wonderful grill marks on the outside. The flavors were mouth watering. The meal came with a side of plum sauce, which was quite good, but it was barely used. That should tell you how good a meal really is.

Lastly, was the Wood Fired Shrimp & Scallop Scampi. Just the presentation of this meal was beautiful. The shrimp were huge and perfectly cooked with that lovely light pink color, the scallops matched the size of the shrimp! No rubbery seafood here! The combination of vegetables only enhanced the smoked flavors of the shrimp and scallops.

On a side note: Their seafood is flown in fresh almost daily (6 days a week) and immediately inspected.

We really enjoyed ourselves there was no rush. Our server was welcoming and wonderful throughout our entire meal. Thanks for the wonderful food and great service!...

Great food as always but the management left a bad taste in our mouth that ruined the dinner.

We arrived Wednesday evening for a family dinner before a couple people headed back to their home states. We requested a 6 person table outside and were told we could sit at a 4 table and a 2 table next to each other. Or, we could be put on a waitlist for a larger single table. We opted to wait and get one table to seat all six.

Roughly 10 minutes later, we were called and shown to our seats. We were shown to a corner that had a 4 person and 2 person next to each other. Given the fact we had requested to wait for a larger table, we assumed we were supposed to combine the two in order to seat six people comfortably. The hostess watched us move the tables roughly 2.5 feet together and then provided us with our menus.

Our server was fantastic and provided our drinks and appetizers promptly. Roughly 30 minutes after sitting down, another employee approached our table. She never introduced herself and instead started scolding us for several minutes that we were not allowed to move tables around and that it could damage the outside patio floor. This went on for an uncomfortably long time and we were left speechless as what to say in response. She finally left and we sat there trying to figure out what happened. It really killed the mood of what was supposed to be a final family dinner together until the winter holidays.

If there is a policy about not moving tables, how come the hostess sat us there, watched us move the tables, and provided our menus? How come our server (who was great) didn't mention it? How come there are no signs on the patio stating this? To us, it seems like an internal issue that needs to be resolved and not blame the customer. How are customers supposed to know?

I want to reiterate that this has nothing to do with our server. She was wonderful from...

UPDATE: I did email Hazelwood, got no response initially and had to follow up a few days later. I received a very generic response back saying ice in an Old Fashioned was now a "premium experience" and would cost an additional $1- no literally, that was his wording... I replied and said how absurd that was, that is how the drink is served, with ice - and they should just put the actual price of the drink on the menu. I did not receive any other response after that. Very tacky way of doing business. Next, they'll probably start charging $1 to use silverware with your meal. There are many other awesome restaurants in the area who won't nickel and dime you for things like ice in your drink, I suggest taking your business there. Original review: We live minutes from this place and used to come here religiously with the family—like 2-3 times a month for years. But tonight? Hazelwood pulled the most ridiculous stunt I’ve seen in a restaurant: they charged us $1 for ICE in an Old Fashioned. ICE. Nothing special, not plated in gold, regular old ice that it has always been served with, standard. It’s part of the normal recipe - it’s a bourbon cocktail, served over ice. If it’s not served over ice, it’s not an old fashioned. But apparently Hazelwood is now in their nickel-and-dime era. If squeezing regulars for a couple bucks in imaginary fees is your new business model, congrats. Hope that $3 bought you something nice, because it just cost you lifelong customers. Oh—and while we’re on the subject of absurd service—I had to go up to the bar myself to get a glass of water because our server just… never brought it. Asked twice. Nothing. Then when it was empty? Still nothing. So yes, at Hazelwood you now get to pay for ice AND fetch your own water like you’re at a gas station soda machine. Honestly, McDonald’s treats people better—and they don’t charge you extra for ice in your beverage.
