So what happens when a group of friends get together to opena a bar and lounge? You get a laid back space where you can have a conversation with your friends..and the owners too. One of those owners knows how to make simple really good food out real ingredients. The other friend knows how to make mind blowing sippable drinks. Or maybe they hired someone, I don't know. Bravo to who ever made the decision. My friend and I took advantage of the great summer night and sat in the outdoor seating area. Inside there was a comfortably seated good size crowd. We also could have sat at the bar. In day 2, the service was excellent. Since the waitress was busy inside, the bartender helped us outside. Brett know his liquors and whatever kind of drink. When asked he made excellent recommendations on drinks AND food. Tucked away in the Westboro shopping area it helps give the place a different vibe than your average bar in Topeka. Check em out!

So I tried this little gem on a Friday evening after work. Parking could be an issue depending on when you go. They have an interesting cocktail selection. We tried the Aperol Spritz, , The Bubb, The Sluis, and French Martini.All. Of those were unique and good. This is a small plate venue so think about snacks. We had the grazing board & chicken meatballs. All were very good. We also got to tour the Principles office! That is another area with speciality cocktails. Upstairs they also serve wine, bear, etc. Good idea to have a reservation otherwise you are taking your chances. We got lucky. The atmosphere really is nice indoor & out, however we were attacked by some greedy meat eating little flies. So we moved inside. Will definitely go back!

I met some friends upstairs where they had what looked like tapas across the table. I didn't have any so I can't speak to the quality or pricing. We then went downstairs to the "Principal's Office Speakeasy" where you do need a reservation, but no membership or password. Their cocktails are school-themed, such as the "Chocolate Milk" served in a glass 1/2 pint milk carton (oh the nostalgia!) and the "Hot for Teacher" made with jalapeños. The staff were very kind and on top of things, even considering the busyness of Friday evening and our fairly large group. Honestly my favorite part was their two "Art Deco" style gender-neutral restrooms. Other than that, nothing really stood out, though I'd be willing to return if invited.

Salut is a gem of an establishment. The local owners have infused this cozy tapas, wine, and cocktail bar with their heart and soul, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels like a second home. Reservations are helpful, but if you can snag a spot at the bar that’s where the magic happens. The menu, which boasts delightful family ties, adds an extra layer of warmth to the experience.

The locals' genuine affection for Salut is a testament to its exceptional drinks and cocktails. The bartenders here are true artisans, crafting drinks that are as exquisite as they are flavorful.

I must highlight the stuffed mushrooms and the fig and goat cheese – they're absolute must-tries. The stuffed mushrooms burst with a medley of flavors, truly delighted to find out that this is a family recipe. It even felt like comfort food but with an upscale twist. Can’t go wrong with fig and goat cheese, as always, a heavenly combination that's hard to resist.

Salut has managed to strike the perfect balance between an intimate ambiance and a lively gathering spot. It's the kind of place where you can unwind with friends after a long day or celebrate special occasions.

To the owners and the team at Salut, a heartfelt "Skål!" – a Scandinavian toast that perfectly captures the joy and camaraderie your establishment brings. Keep doing what you're doing, because you've certainly won over my heart and taste buds....

First of all . . . it is the staff here that enhance everything about this charming place! They are exceptional! And then there's the unique cocktails! Oh, and the food! We loved the stuffed mushrooms and the free spicey little pretzels. Water served in a wine bottle,of course! We began our late evening upstairs with charming Hannah, the sommelier. My dirty martini, though off the menu, was perfection. Hubs had the "Penicillin" which I'm sure could cure cancer! Fortunately, they also had room for us in the basement speakeasy, "The Principal's Office," where I was treated to an 1890's original gin martini made with the owner's hand-crafted gin. Mild and ever so slightly sweet, it was right up my alley. Hubby had a "Bitter Chocolate Fashioned" which came with a giant square ice cube and was very good. A piano player and singer were just finishing up as we were seated, but I had enjoyed snippets of "Play Misty For Me" and "My Funny Valentine," oldies but goodies well performed. This is a place to relax and enjoy good conversation. No TVs! Make a...

If you live anywhere near Topeka and you haven't visited Salut & The Principal's Office, you are seriously missing out. For decades we've wished for a quirky local spot that emphasizes high quality eats AND offers excellent cocktail choices (ie- NOT cocktails that are premixed from the bottle and taste like you just downed a bag of sugar). I am definitely not a cocktail expert but what I appreciate is that Salut makes trying new liquors (or combinations of such) so approachable. You don't know what you like? No sweat, anyone there will talk you through what flavors you lean towards to suggest a drink. Know exactly what you like? The mixologists know how to help you try a new spin. Loved sitting on the patio and watching the world go by AND loved "going to the Principal's office" to listen to records. Great staff....enjoyed getting to chat with the mixologist about liquors and brands. We will for sure be back as often as we can! Thanks for a memorable evening celebrating our...
