My husband, niece, and myself went in Monday morning about 9:45 before we headed back to Southwest Kansas. We were seated in a section, (unknown to us) that did not have a designated server. Once we had decided what to order, we waited for 15 minutes. A table of seven was seated right next to us and their drink orders were taken shortly after they were seated. Their server turned and looked right at us, with menus still on our table, turned back around and walked off. Several other servers had walked by us without stopping to ask if we had been served. My husband finally stopped a female wearing a red polo and asked "Can we get a server?" I also said, "We've been here for 15 minutes!" The female looked very shocked and walked away to get someone to be our server. A few minutes later, a female server walked up to our table with coffee and cups in hand and asked if she could get our drink orders. We ordered our drinks. She came back within minutes with our drinks and at the same time took our food order. Once she put in our order, we had our food orders out not even 10 minutes later. She returned several times throughout our entire meal to check on us. She was very polite and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. She also mentioned that we were seated in a section that didn't have a designated server so everyone was walking by and assumed someone had us. Because of her, we enjoyed our experience!
I get it, I have worked in several restaurants in my younger adulthood but it would not have been hard for any of the servers to notice the menus still sitting on our table and stop to see if we had...
Read morePoor service is when it takes a long time for the waitress to take your order and to refill drinks. Unacceptable service is when you arrive, wait 15 minutes, someone else is seated at the table next to you, you wait another 10 minutes, the people at the table next to you order, you wait another 10 minutes, they get their food, you wait another 5 minutes and then you finally get to order. And THEN your food comes to you and the order is WRONG. Bonus points if you get to watch then ENTIRE FIRST HALF of the Chiefs-Bengals game during your visit. For what it's worth, the food was pretty good, price was in line with other places. I don't know if the omelet would have been good or not. I didn't get it even though I ordered it. Two stars for decent food. Don't go if you are in a hurry.
UPDATE: Big Biscuit HQ contacted me in response to this review and sent me a gift card with an invitation to try them again. I did and I've updated to 5 stars. Service was quite good on the second visit. Seated in less than 5 minutes and the waiter took my order within about 5 minutes of when I was seated. I also think my less-than-enthusiastic impression of the food on my first visit was tainted by the negative service and the fact that my order was wrong. While I don't think they made any changes to how they prepare their food, it did taste much better on this second visit.
In short: Great service, really good food, ample portion sizes, reasonable prices. ...
Read moreMy husband and I were driving through Topeka, Kansas and looked for a breakfast and brunch restaurant. We stopped at The Big Biscuit and because it was Sunday it was pretty busy. I was told there was a 20 minute wait, which ended up being less than 10 min! We were sat and greeted promptly by our waitress. My husband ordered the Kansas omelette and I got the pancake platter. Our waitress forgot our extra side of pancakes and chorizo but it was okay because the pancakes were big enough to share and it worked out. And she ended up not charging us for the chorizo. It was no biggie, she apologized and was really nice about it. The breakfast potatoes were BOMB!!!! They usually come plain but we both added onions and green peppers to ours. They didn't need salt or pepper ayeeee! OMG they were amazing definitely order yours with onions and bell peppers as well. I did not give them 5 stars because my husband loves him some coffee and theirs was a little watered down, but they did have non dairy French vanilla creamer which was a plus. Also, the atmosphere was really cool they just needed to sweep under some of the tables. Back to the pancakes .. they were huge !!! And so good !!! We didn't even have to ask for warm syrup, she brought it anyway. Thanks girl because my husband was getting on my nerves with the "make sure you ask for warm syrup" Overall The Big Biscuit was a hit and we would...
