I really like fresh peach pie, and came to Hof’s Hut to have an early bird dinner and a peach pie. Well, there is no early bird special, but they DO have Happy Hour until 6pm on weeknights. I didn’t realize they serve cocktails and I got a Passion fruit Mule, and my husband got a Prosecco. Both drinks were very good, and I would definitely recommend the Passion Fruit Mule to anyone who likes a refreshing easy to drink cocktail!
I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Walnut Salad thinking it would be like a Chinese chicken salad. It’s actually two scoops of an American chicken salad (the kind with mayo you would put on a sandwich) on top of the veggies mentioned in the menu, which includes mandarin oranges. It wasn’t bad… just not what I expected.
My husband ordered the bbq combo - picking tri-tip (ordered med-rare), ribs and shrimp. It came with two sections of corn on the cob and baked beans and cornbread. He added a cup of clam chowder for $4.25. We both really liked the New England style clam chowder even tho we normally like a really creamy thicker clam chowder. The thinner style was better for the hot summer day, and the flavor was fantastic. When we got his plate, he went to butter his corn and the butter wasn’t melting. We touched the corn cobs and they were barely room temperature and the kernels had collapsed like they had been sitting out for a while. And the tri-tip was well done and looked like a thin piece of jerky. We are not the type to complain, but Stephanie, our server was very nice about it and took the offending pieces away on a separate plate and came back a bit later with a nice medium-rare tri-tip and plump sections of corn that were a little warmer. In the meantime, we dug into the ribs, shrimp, and beans. Surprisingly, the shrimp was perfect and not overdone. It’s rare to have that in this type of family restaurant. I liked the beans better than my husband did, and we both thought the ribs were just OK… would have been great if they were not overcooked. Of course the cornbread was very good, as usual here. They serve you a small individual loaf so it’s a good size and retains moisture.
Unfortunately, they were all out of fresh peach pie. We got the Dutch apple instead… a la mode of course! I’ll have to make another trip to get the peach pie in the future, while it’s still in season!
Through this all, the place has a nice airy family diner restaurant atmosphere. I felt we could hang and talk and relax. The service made up for some of the shortcomings of the food. Stephanie was a great server, and was very accommodating. Plus, she did everything with a smile and graciousness. There were certain foods that were great, but most of the foods are what I would consider OK and standard. So it really is dependent on what you get. But if you are looking for a family diner restaurant, it’s a good safe bet to come here.
The two-stalled women’s restroom was clean with no offending odors. Always...
Read moreTeething problems can always be expected from new places but didn't expect them from one re-opening and one so established. But oh such rookie mistakes. Dirty tableware 6/8 on our table as soon as we sat down. They had run out of a sub rolls for lunch at 11:45am (and then kudos gave my friends free desserts!) The staff supposedly were experienced but made a multitude of mistakes but my biggest disappointment, they didn't make the 'outside' any warmer. After speaking to the Manager, she said she would close the 'shutters' as everyone knows that heat rises and the heater they had turned on was just not reaching us. Something about being too high, the wind and the windows being cold etc. Majority of customers had heaters on, still had sweaters on and we still huddled for more warmth plus no one STILL wants to sit out there unless its summer. Why? Because it's cold. Why put heaters when they don't work? Why put shutters when they don't get closed so they can have SOME hope of working to keep that room warm? Hofs Hut, you just spent a lot of money to make your place better but forgot something maybe? Or how to at least through in some blankets, teach your Managers how to work the shutters/heaters. Make it warm BEFORE people get there and then let customers know ITS WARM OUT THERE and then you wouldn't have done many sitting waiting without sitting, eating, enjoying your food and paying and going out happy and posting...
Read moreExtremely slow service, poor quality, overpriced food. 1 beer and a sandwich was $23.??
Pretty overpriced for the poor quality, took them about 15 minutes just to ask for my drink. Then another 10 just to poor itand I was sitting at the bar. The waiter couldnt have just poored the drink when I took my order of course...
Keg was dry, which is fine I just askedfor another beer, Ived worked a bar it isnt that difficult to change a keg but whatever.
Then when I got my bill he just walked away, expecting me to wait another god knows how long to pay... Didnt have time for that so he got a massive tip.
This is the only restaurant ive ever wanted to just walk out on.
This was around 7:45 on a Sunday. There was staff everywhere but it looked like theywerent interested in promotly serving their customers.
The other gentleman at the bar ordered a slice of carrot cake, which is just sitting in the cabinet, not made to order, and it took them almost 20 minutes to serve him.
Never going back here again, what a scam.
Urge anyone thinking about coming here to gonto one of the many other establishments in the area.
After flying in a small plane for 6 hours, and then needing to drive 3 hours afterwards all i wanted was some decent grub.
I shouldve known as soon as I walked in when the host looked like he was 15 and barely audible when he was speaking, let alone inviting and cordial.
Avoid this place...
