I ordered their "famous" fish fry and my wife had chicken fingers.
When our food came, I thought they mistakenly gave me a "mini" fish fry. I wasn't sure if it was or not, I just figured I would review the bill when we received it. My "beer battered" fish was approximately seven inches in length and no more than two and a quarter inches at its' widest point. I couldn't imagine what a mini fish fry would look like. Heck, the plate was no wider than ten inches.
Between both dishes, I don't think there was a product that may have been prepped in the restaurant's kitchen other than my macaroni salad, and that was tough to determine anyways. In other words, nothing homeade. The french fries and chicken fingers were bulk foods from a distributor or possibly even Sam's Club. Nothing I couldn't have done in my own kitchen. The chicken fingers actually had the customary gristle you find when you buy it from the store. We had to have hit a Friday night where the kitchen staff was on vacation. There was nothing special or unique about any of the food. The fish looked as if it came from bulked packaging too.
The place certainly is not afraid to flaunt their award winning accolades for being one of the "best" places in Buffalo to go for a fish fry. And that is what prompted me to come here to write a review. It wasn't awful, I ate my food. But there is no way, no way, NO WAY, that the food could be considered for best of anything. This was my first time here for a fish fry. I have heard people say good things and there were items posted on the walls recognizing McPartlin's for having a quality fish fry.
I don't mind giving establishments a second chance. But this first chance was NOT anywhere close to the expectations. There was nothing award winning about the dish that was placed in front of me. And, when I reviewed the bill, it did not indicate I had ordered the mini fish fry.
I can only guess the kitchen staff was out...
Read moreThe parking lot was packed so I was excited to try the fish fry and didn't mind the wait to be seated the waitress promptly brought us fresh rye and from there on it was a disaster. I ordered a crock of French onion soup and a fish fry and a broiled fish for her. She gave me ample warning that it was going to be a wait but again we were OK with it. So 20 minutes later it comes and looks good except for the salt content was overwhelming. Then as we are sitting there waiting for our entrees other waitresses are noticing that we still have received our meals even though we were sitting there for an hour. Then our waitress offers to take a look in the kitchen and comes back to apologize for forgetting to put the order in. Well after another 15 minute wait they arrived and we were extremely hungry by then but even so we underwhelmed they fries were hot but hardened and the fry was blah the best part of the broiled were the side of beets that came with it. Needless to say that we won't be back ever. And the kicker is they didn't even offer anything off the bill for the inconvenience but the waitress did bring us some Easter candy for our patience thanks...
Read moreInterior is very clean but no frills and kind of dated and simple but still kinda cozy.
Service was very good , welcoming, exstemely friendly and attentive.
Food was not good. It is pretty bland most things seemed like they were cheap store bought bulk canned type items and cheap cuts for meats nothing seemed fresh. I was suprised at the price considering quality and everything seemed 0 effort put into preperation other then opening cans and heating things up. Canned vegitables, instant potatoes, toasted half a hot dog bun as a roll (would bread or actual dinner rolls realy be that much?!) everything was bland and unseasoned no flavor no effort. Soda was some weird generic brand and flat. Considering all the lower quality cheap corner cutting in the kitchen I'd exspect a bill on the lower end too. At this range you can go somewhere with fresh food seasoning and a lil effort put in. It's not that it's unaffordable but you are not getting any quality or effort for what you pay for. If you don't like flavor I guess...
