Afternoon stroll at Robert Moses Beach today. On the way back we stopped at Babylon Fish And Clam Restaurant to have our first dine out sit down experience after 100 days. Is a nice little place on the the corner not far away from the water. My wife and I got the special ( Salmon, Tuna, Flounder with choice of 2 sides $22). I am always sceptical when it comes to dine out but this one really surprised me!!! I had the Tuna Medium rare ( cooked on point) my wife the flounder she really liked. The vegetables where seasoned nice. The little one had fries flounder veggies and French fries she eat it all...
Tables are placed apart. Service was really nice. Server cleaned upafter the tables left. Everyone was wearing a mask and sanitizer placed right by the entrance/exit!
I was confused about the not existence of non disposable menu and the customers who came without mask.
I would certainly recommend the place to everyone.
After than we drove up the road for some Ice cream. The place was called Sweet Sensations it was fantastic...
Great Weather, great food and spending time with the family what else I...
Read moreI don't usually do this. But I feel this place deserves a warning sign. Now you might consider me spoiled but I'm used to some semblance of proper service and food.
To start with food: the oysters were mangled by the shucker, the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms were literally just heated mushrooms with crabmeat and no flavor, the crab cakes were not too bad but only if you dipped them in tartar sauce, $10 for 5 tiny shrimp with some grocery store seasoning and a wilted lettuce leaf. But hey I liked the garlic bread. As far as the service: when asked which kind of oysters they have the server replied as though annoyed that she doesn't eat oysters and doesn't know what they taste like or where they're from. Her reply: "let's say they're from Virginia" closed that conversation. The plates were cleared even before we were done. To be quite honest we did get two oysters back but by that point we were not in the mood to...
Read moreWe saw a review that the New England clam chowder was more like a potato soup, and this is right on. A tasty potato soup, but not a clam chowder.
The gumbo was also not remotely close to what you'd imagine a gumbo to be, but also tasty.
The mushrooms stuffed with crab were again, tasty, but loaded with too much cheese and not enough crab.
Can you detect a trend here?
The blackened tuna was the best part of the meal, prepared well and with flavor.
Our waiter (Mike) was friendly enough (dutifully filling glasses and checking in, etc) but a little brusque and seemed to awkwardly ignore my date - in so far as to direct all questions and conversation to me, and place the bill AND change in front of me, even though she paid and had handed him the money. It was pretty off-putting.
Overall, a weird experience, not necessarily bad, but...
